And so I turned on my new PC... PART II

I was using B sorry. nvm I exited it, I have win 7 installed. Now I'm just thinking whether I should wait for my new SSD and perform an upgrade installation on the SSD using my previous install from my HDD. Is this possible? Can you choose a new file location to install windows? or it just...

And so I turned on my new PC... PART II

Found this quiet interesting http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/482 thats a 1 TB HDD is actually 931.5 GB -.- I've known about this for ages.

And so I turned on my new PC... PART II

Okay will give it a shot. Wait, you know how it says run makeboot.bat does that mean I need to have win 7 set up on my desktop? wait, so you're saying I can reinstall windows 7 a second time with a legit "upgrade copy". The reason why I have an upgrade copy, was because I bought it about 2...

And so I turned on my new PC... PART II

Since the other one closed down and I wasn't finished yet here goes: I used Gparted. It comes with an error, that it loses the DVD drive, and says please specify what drive the data from the disc is located :/ bit weird, since everything loads from that disc already.

nah going with Ultimate Boot CD Download looks good, plus I heard good reviews of it. I'd rather stay legit 100%, don't mind going xp to 7. The only reason I put 7 first was to test to see if the licence key worked, obviously not. hey when I get my SSD, could I just install XP on that?

Didn't you say crucial? I remember a lot of people saying crucial.... pffft on their box it's got "The memory experts" I mean I can understand that this one may just be faulty, and hopefully I can get another one, otherwise shud I just go with a corsair if my shop has none in stock? -.- Also...

maybe it was trying to read the SSD drive to clarify that it is in working order, but it wasn't so it locked up? and the lines were only appearing at the top, the rest of the screen remained calm and correct. If it was a GPU issue the whole screen would all be screwed.

yeah OS would be about 20 or so GBs, then you can fit a few games on there, maybe 13 of your most played games (depending how big they are) say they are 8 - 10 GBs each. and note, you don't get the full 128 GB, you'll get like 126 GB due to reserved space. Also is it worth cloning? why not just...

And so I turned on my new PC...

SSD's are small atm. unless you're a rich %%%$ and can afford two 256GB SSDs. atm windows 7 is installing..will it accept the new installation? It is an upgrade edition. My bet is that it's going to ask for the Licence key and kick up a stink because there was no previous version of windows...

And so I turned on my new PC...

yes, after testing the HDD and SSD separately, I can say those lines appear on the BIOS when the SSD is plugged in. Dam My friend even warned me about SSDs, that they're still in their infancy and all, and are not proven reliable technology yet and that's why it's expensive (less supply and...

So what do you recommend me to do? to remain static safe for my PC?

And so I turned on my new PC...

Okay after doing all this (and disconnected audio and USB cables, as well as SSD) a message appeared and said. "Loading OS, failure to load OS, please insert a HDD/SSD" So maybe it could be a SSD or HDD error?

yeah but c'mon, he's been building PCs for prob 20 years, surely he would of stumbled upon correct procedures to eliminate static damage.

And so I turned on my new PC...

The site said it was safe to do so, provided that the PSU has an I/O switch to turn off the power, but retain grounding capabilities.

And so I turned on my new PC...

Guess he was just lucky then. My friend also didn't use any form of grounding and had no problems what so ever. I guess it's just a gamble then. But I wouldn't risk it.

And so I turned on my new PC...

What are you on about? I'm talking about static electricity here. idc about mains atm. btw, I ruled out that the graphics card is NOT the problem. So most likely a mobo issue. I can quickly press an option to boot to the BIOS, but then a split second after, those lines reappear.

(go to 6:30, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_56kyib-Ls for old school method of static discharge) - he doesn't have the case connected to a power outlet. but the PSU isn't installed at that time. However even at the end he doesn't ground it.
