HSC 2015 MX2 Marathon ADVANCED (archive)

Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon - Advanced Level I remember reading something like 1 in 4 people don't even get a whole question right (though this seems kinda high since I don't think the exam is THAT hard). This might have been for the junior paper though which would make more sense since they...

They said there was no scaling last year and I'm pretty sure we still got scaled. My final mark was definitely not my raw mark unless they marked it super easy.

Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon - Advanced Level You don't get given your exact score only the stats etc. If I had to guess my score, I'd say around 19 or 20/25 (it is out of 30, but since the inequality question didn't work I'm not sure how they marked that?) I know out of the 5 questions that did...

HSC 2015 MX2 Marathon ADVANCED (archive)

Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon - Advanced Level Yer I don't think it's that bad of a Q1 either. The method you have to use (assuming an arbitrary person sees at least 18 etc) is obvious, the main problem would be reaching the contradiction. It's still better than my year's one where the inequality...

help with overall mark for unit

Wait what. All of my units get rounded to the nearest whole number (I'm sure this is how it works?)

Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon - Advanced Level You only need prime values of k for the question so we don't even have to define them. If you want to define them, non-prime integer k can still be defined in the same way without any issues from what I can see. If we take rational k, then we'd only...

    Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon - Advanced Level f_2(12) = 2 as the highest power of 2 that goes into 12 is 2 (2^2=4|12)

Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon - Advanced Level I didn't worry too much about the fine details since it's a 4U thread, but I'll clarify: The domain of the function is the positive rationals. The function can only be calculated directly if k is a positive integer, otherwise we just use the property...

Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon - Advanced Level No, I'm saying k isn't necessarily integer.

Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon - Advanced Level Forget the condition that k needed to be integer. It was late and I'm not too sure why I said that.

    Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon - Advanced Level Define a function by: f_p(k) = m Where p is prime, k is real, and m is the highest integer power of p that divides k. Note that m doesn't have to be integer. i.e. f_2(10^{\frac{1}{3}}) = f_2(2^{\frac{1}{3}} \times 5^{\frac{1}{3}}) = \frac{1}{3} You...

Really? I looked and it didn't have any prereqs. It makes sense to do 2965 first though.

Ok cool so I can do 147CP. Which means I'm going to have to do an extra 3rd year subject next year. LOL looks like I'm not going to be doing 3977 (at least not this year). I think I'm going with PDE's/financial/algebra/geometry and topology. I would consider overloading if there are any...

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

Couple questions: 1) My degree is out by 3CP. i.e. if I continue doing 6CP subjects I'll finish with 141CP. I don't know of any 3CP subjects I can do to fix this. Am I allowed to do an extra 6CP subject and make it 147CP (so I'll be 3CP over the limit)? 2) Has anyone done MATH3977...

They don't. My raw marks throughout the year added up was equal to my final mark. Same with just about everyone else I know.
