    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

Yer I've heard it's worse. Hopefully I'm more prepared for it though. You had Daners though, I think he gives out higher marks than Florica.

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

Most of my subjects so far are ok, thought I'm quite worried about MATH2962 cos of my quiz marks etc. Also MATH2961, despite doing ok in the quizzes, it was really due to the quizzes being easy. Scared for this final.

    My Romantic Day

My first thought too "are you not walking in circles?"

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

So today just got amazing. Received two marks back that were pretty important. 15/15 in a graph theory quiz (only like 4 people got full marks so fuck yeah), and an 87 in my bioethics essay which was worth 33%. Nice.

    Eigenvalues & Eigenvectors

Also I'm sure people are confused by this thread. As you can see from makematics' quote, I was replying to a comment in one of the non-school massive threads. Mods decided it should probs be it's own thread for anyone needing help with eigenvalues etc so they turned it into one.

    Eigenvalues & Eigenvectors

I found it helped motivate the ideas behind linear algebra, because it can seem a bit like "why do we need this?" at first. It also has a lot of practice questions too I guess, didn't really do them though.

So, why do universities promote the currect syllabus?

It's not so much that matrices are pointless, it's just that for them to be useful you need to know A LOT about them. To do this as a topic in high school probably wouldn't give you enough time to learn it well enough. Conics isn't exactly useful as a direct application, but the actual methods...

So, why do universities promote the currect syllabus?

The syllabus as it is now is great imo. Putting in matrices is a bad idea. What are you going to teach high school students about matrices? Nothing of substance really.

Estimate the length of Harbour Bridge???

lol I remember this from last year They just want to see you make an appropriate estimate. Saying 623.23947349 metres is obviously not appropriate as it's far too accurate. And the skills test is easy. I got 29/30 for it last year and most people got a similar mark. Worry about the final cos...

Girl at school technically cheating on all her assessments... what do?

I know right, it's like people don't like standing up for anything. OP I had a similar situation in year 12 (but with a dodgy exam). I went to the deputy principal about it and got the whole exam remade and everyone had to sit it again. Why? Because it was unfair and if I didn't I would have...

    Union Board Elections

For me it's not the idea of it that's wrong, it's more so that "at least 3 women" seems a bit too high. Something like either "at least 2 women" or "the top 3 men and top 3 women" seems better.

Do people even take the USU seriously anyway?

    Better mark principle (math)?

Mostly yes. I got 9/10 in my MATH1901 quizzes but over 90 in the final. Similarly my MATH1902 quizzes were horrible (13/15 and 9/15 iirc) but still got a HD. I also know people who lost marks in the assignments etc but got full marks in the final (and getting a final mark of like 98+).

    Better mark principle (math)?

What? A lot of people I know did better in the final for first year. I literally better marked every single quiz, cos my final for ALL 5 first year maths subjects was better.

    Scaling?

You got your answer, why bump? It means that maths/science people in general do better at English than humanities people.
  19. RealiseNothing

do assessment grades represent what you're going to get in the unit?

Welcome to USYD science/engo where moderation/scaling doesn't exist.
