    Top Achievers in Course List

Re: Top 20 in Course List Hi guys The list is subject to an embargo and is arguably confidential. While it's fine for this discussion to continue, I'd appreciate it if you could refrain from posting copies of the original PDF. Thanks

    Underlining of 'uni'

This is pretty much correct. We're in the process of updating and upgrading everything - this 'feature' apparently came with one of the updates that was installed. I've removed 'uni' from the acronym list. More may need to follow. They look a bit annoying to me.

    New server is coming...

Feedback on the performance of the new server in general would be quite useful.

    Past grade distributions.

The attached PDF sets out the grade distributions for all UNSW courses taken by law students in Session 1 of 2006. For those courses that have two rows of statistics, I believe the top row is the distribution for all students, and the bottom row is the distribution for law students. If a...

    Question about premier's list

Yes - unfortunately that's correct - a High Distinction in Philosophy is 85-100, but you need 90+ to qualify for the Premier's Award. You must have fallen in the 85-89 gap.

Distinguished Achievers List (as a searchable Excel file)

The list is initially sorted by school, but you can sort and search it however you like. Distinguished Achievers List (2.4mb) It includes all 14 010 students (up from 13 338 last year) and was parsed from the listing on the Board of Studies website. Statistics * There were eight Band 6...

    2005 UAI Distribution tables

You're having trouble finding this table because it doesn't exist. :) There are no statistics describing the proportion of students in each course who attain particular UAIs (or setting out equivalences between course percentiles and UAI attained). Table A1 does however state the top UAI...

the moderation prototype is not workin???

It broke when we upgraded the site a little while ago - hopefully we'll get around to fixing it soon.

    sam usage

It's not exactly what the BOS does, but yes it's what you should do.
  13. Lazarus

    How accurate is SAM?

It would be helpful (to both us and to your claim) if you posted up the marks you entered and the UAIs they attained.

    Sam 2006

Hoping to get to it at the end of the month. It will definitely be out before you receive your marks.

    Questions

That will only be true if those three students obtain the top three exam marks - strictly speaking, if there are n students tied for first place, their moderated assessment marks will be set equal to the average of the top n examination marks (which may or may not have been attained by those...

    What the?

Aligned marks are never scaled. Aligning and scaling are two independent processes that run in parallel. Raw marks -> aligned marks -> HSC record of achievement Raw marks -> scaled marks -> UAI SAM estimates scaled marks from aligned marks (because they're the only statistics we have), but...

    Misadventure Form

No - not true. You've misread what I wrote. Your 'initial moderated assessment mark' is not the assessment mark determined by your school. It is an entirely new mark that is calculated by reference to your assessment rank and the distribution of raw examination marks from your school. A...

    Oldwives tale or anecdotal evidence?

The 'four subjects' requirement is for sitting the HSC, not for calculating UAIs. So, whilst you have to take at least four subjects, they don't all have to count towards your top 10 units.

The likelihood of Journeys as AOS for 2008 HSC.

The area of study entitled "The Journey" will continue in 2008 (for that year only), but there will be a new prescribed stimulus booklet.
