    MATH1131 Tutorials Attendance.

I've never heard of them failing someone in 1131 for not attending enough. On the other hand, if you rock up with a problem later in the session, or if you are sick for the final, they are likely to look at whether you have been attending before they do something like give you a deferred. I...

What else are you taking this session?

What exactly is pass conceded ?

although you can only count 18uoc of PCs over your degree, so make sure you don't get one every session.

    Importance of Physics in Optometry?

not doing optom but ... for the b.optom you need to do Physics 1A. That has assumed knowledge HSC Physics, although the handbook entry for optom only lists HSC Physics as a recommended course. From what people have said in other threads, having done lots of calculus (ie at least MX1) is much...

What should i do with this degree?

John Steele is the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Maths. You could also talk to the Director of First Year Maths, Peter Brown. I don't think that there is any problem in not doing honours, but it will effect what gets written on your degree. For example, I don't think that...

What should i do with this degree?

You can get permission to replace 1151/1251 with 1131/1231 if you are a midyear entry so that you don't get too far behind with the maths. But 1131/1231 are quite a bit easier than 1151/1251 so they aren't as good preparation for 2nd year higher. Go and have a chat to John Steele in Maths who...

Does anybody know what's gonna happen if the general education course is failed?

Interesting. I have never seen anything like that. Which major are you working towards? Most schools only really care about how you did in 2nd and 3rd year in your major.

Does anybody know what's gonna happen if the general education course is failed?

They'll mainly just worry about how you are doing in your major, especially in 3rd year. Plenty of students do things like completely screw up a year, change degrees and then do really well. Just don't fail too many things and you should be fine.

What should i do with this degree?

as Shadowdude says, you don't need to worry about what sort of maths you want to do for a while. Do you do MATH1131 and 1231 (over summer) as a mid year entry instead of MATH1151 and 1251? That is probably a bit of a disadvantage.

    UNSW Exams in a Marquee??

I don't think they care what the subject is, they just try to work out what courses will fill up the exam venues most efficiently. btw how was the 2111 exam?

    Special Consideration for exams

If you're too sick to sit the exam then A. Get a medical cert and apply at https://my.unsw.edu.au/student/atoz/SpecialConsideration.html B. Talk to your lecturer. In little classes where they know you it is less of a problem than if there are 1000 students in the class and you are just some...

    How much scaling in MATH1151?

I don't think that this is quite right. What I think happens is that they sometimes have allocated a mark for something that almost no-one does, like explicitly stating that something has satisfied all the hypotheses of some theorem. That mark would be useless at telling apart the good students...

how do you sell math course notes ?

And they change a bit from year to year. Having the wrong dates/problem list for the class tests wouldn't be very good.

Topics learnt in math1151 that carry onto later courses?

One thing you must see in some of the ACTL stats courses will be linear regression models. If you look up the wikipedia article you'll see that it uses heaps of 1st year maths http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_least_squares_%28mathematics%29

Topics learnt in math1151 that carry onto later courses?

1251 Alg is complex numbers, vectors spaces, linear transformations and eigenvalues. You'll need all the stuff about matrices and solving systems of equations for the last three of those. 1251 Calc is integration, differential equations, sequences and series, several variable calc. It builds...

    Higher vs Normal (Maths)

In second year the higher courses are usually quite a bit more abstract and less computational. If you look at the course handout on the website it says: The final marks in MATH2501 will be scaled with reference to final marks in MATH2601, taking into consideration the greater degree of...

    Help with Academic Transcript unsw

It isn't that uncommon for someone to come to uni, bomb out for a few sessions, take a break to get themselves together and the start afresh. I know someone who went from failing to getting HDs. The first go really stuffs the WAM up, so it wouldn't be that hard to graduate with a sub50 WAM. (I...

Marks before the finals for a D/HD?

Lots of people get close to 100% before the final exam. They say that unless you are averaging 70% on the class tests you are likely to fail and not many people fail 1151, so that must squash lots of people up.

    Importance of WAM?

What Stallion's link points to is the Engineering "Faculty WAM". This is NOT what appears on your transcript - even in Engineering. Engineering use it to hand out Honours as they don't have a separate honours year. The Weighted in WAM generally refers to weighting by units of credit, not by...
