I believe there is nothing wrong with dropping a subject as long as you are confident in your decision.

I think the general rule is: if you don't know what to drop, don't drop. You want to be 100% sure of dropping either disliking the subject or performing poorly, if you're dropping just for the sake of it you will mostly likely regret it.

Yeah i would highly recommend picking up or continuing a sport during yr 12, it improves your physical and mental health while giving you an active way of taking a break from study.
School rank is used and it is important in moderating internal ranks Eg. First in ENGLISH ADV in Baulkham hills HS is a lot more difficult than a +300 rank school, thus it is moderated appropriately
Yeah getting a job is pretty beneficial, i usually take time off during exam periods but it teaches you life skills, looks good on your CV and also helps with time management tbh.
