    2008 Preliminary Roll Call

Haha. It's like there's a competition to see who can be the most welcoming :D PS welcome everybody! (that's my contribution :))

    Single sex schools vs coed

Single-sex school, with strong links to the corresponding boys' school. It's a nice compromise I think, because we can do academic stuff on our own but we have lots of musical groups and things together, and most people have heaps of friends at the other school anyway. So it's good :)

do you always do your homework?

No, never, I have better things to do. (Actually I don't but I wanted to sound cool). Yeah, I'm too lazy to do homework, so I just leave my books at school all the time. It's doing wonders for my back :D

Being in which grade was the coolest?

Every year has been better than the last (with the exception of year 6 - I changed schools in the middle of it :(), so I have to say year 11. Besides, I can't remember much of previous years. So by elimination, year 11, again :D

    How FAST can you go?

I can usually read about 100 pages each way on the bus trips to and from school (just under an hour long), which is when I do most of my reading. But it really depends on how interesting the book is, and what distractions I have, and all that. The bus is pretty boring, so I can read a bit...

    Memorising Essays

If they found out because your essay was totally inappropriate, then yes, because you haven't answered the question. But not directly for memorising it.

    Help - Mark my speech!

    1. Why do you have to do a 40-minute speech?? That's like a whole lesson! 2. That wasn't anywhere near 40 minutes! I'm sorry. I'm just really confused

    Biology VS Physics

And mine! Physics > Biology > Chemistry... usually chem is second but it's so boring at the moment...
  9. S

    Study Time

Everything. *Especially* assignments. If the teacher makes us do practice essays, then I'll show them to him/her, but only if we have to, and I still feel awkward about it...I don't know why. I know logically that it's a good way to improve marks/understanding, but I just feel all wrong...

    Memorising Essays

But if you understand it completely, then you don't really need to memorise stuff (a few quotes maybe), because you can show a deep understanding of the text and the topic that goes beyond simple memorisation. And once you have that, you can write about anything related to the topic - you're...

    which subjects should i drop?

I can't comment on chem vs ancient, but re: the 10 units thing: There is no point in keeping the other subject if you are failing it now, because you'll just have to work hard at it for nothing, really. Usually I think that doing 10 units is a bit risky and having a backup is better, but...

    Study Time

Yes. I'm a bit weird though. I think that if it's an unseen essay task, then you have to just walk in and write the essay. Somehow in my mind, writing practice essays before is cheating. Showing them to the teacher for checking is like the ultimate betrayal of academic honesty...

Any particular 'good luck charms' that you do before important days?

Most of the time I'll walk in, check that I have all the appropriate lucky charms, breathe a sigh of relief, then realise I've forgotten a pen or calculator or something :D
  14. S

    What are you currently Reading?

One flew over the cuckoo's nest - Ken Kesey and my chem teacher promised to lend me The Ancestor's Tale by Richard Dawkins, which I'm looking forward to
  15. S

    your current favourite song

Radio Wall of Sound - Slade just makes me feel such a passion for the music...so amazing...I just danced around in the front garden and down the street listening to it...and I never do that...
  16. S

    Study Time

I never do homework, but I put a lot of effort into assignments, and that kind of becomes my study...especially if the assignments are research ones, where you have to look up something related to the subject but not directly in the syllabus, which is what really motivates me because those are...

Any particular 'good luck charms' that you do before important days?

Haha, I'm so superstitious when it comes to exams...so are all my friends :D 1. BREAK A PENCIL - this is the most important thing, and that is just before the first exam of an exam period, we get a pencil, snap it in two, and each hold it for luck, before nominating the two people who need...

    Textbooks/Required Reading; How many?

All textbooks, no study guides or anything: English: 3 set novels + 1 textbook Maths: 1 textbook each Biology: 2 pathetic little books where you fill in answers to questions, they're lame but compulsory :( Chem: 1 5-tonne textbook Physics: just class sets of textbooks, but I regularly get...

How far are your classes through your HSC courses?

English: about on track, although we have a couple of assignments due in a short period of time so are going to be a bit thrown around (especially since some people apparently need to be taught how to write a narrative...) Maths B: way behind! the main class is fine, but I'm teaching myself...
