FML my sem 1 2011 timetable is a piece of shit thread

Oh Ok - I don't believe there is a tute the first week, but i guess we will find out in the first lecture. As far as i am aware 308 has a few guest lectures etc so I think it might actually be an interesting unit lecture to attend. Then again I am going straight after a long day at work so maybe...

Should I go back to uni this semester?

Maybe go into uni and discuss it with them. If you explain your situation they may have a solution for you. I would personally do part time but you may not be able to do that - there may however be certain units or even electives you can do externally. Worth a shot just going in and asking.

Is it true you can't have a concession card if you are working?

$118 is nothing - most people work atleast 2 days a week and pass that easily. I rarely get centrelink because I 'earn too much' which is BS as I feel they are punishing people for working. I work because i want to get useful experience and to do that have to work 3 days a week where I am at the...

FML my sem 1 2011 timetable is a piece of shit thread

I thought 308 lectures were mandatory as they are only small classes - maybe I am wrong.

    Accommodation / Room Share

I would try the eastern suburbs you may be able to get a place in say Randwick although $150 a week including bills isn't going to get you very far at all. I use to share a 2 bedroom apartment in Coogee for $220 but Randwick does seem cheaper. Don't bother those rooms posted on poles in the...

    SNG Marking System

Yeh it's a little bit of a mystery but I have been told they basically aim for a certain % to get each grade and therefore people are scaled up to reflect that. I have heard it is also based on the marks of previous years and the performance of all students in the year as a collective. In...

    New library

It's already open now. Some books are still in the old library but are being moved across slowly. The new library is open though, although the old library is still the first point of contact until the day before we start semester. http://www.mq.edu.au/currentstudents/news/libraryonthemove.html -...

How much do you have to spend on textbooks?

First semester I had to buy brand new because they had re-done all the units and changed the prescribed textbooks now I sell them and buy mine second hand. Last year i was even able to do clean swaps with people having done units I was doing and vice versa. I manage to sell/swap most of my...

Which would be better on your gpa?

You can get the resources and textbook separately. Just get the resources which you def NEED. It has all the lec notes, tute example and prac notes and a CD with extra examples and answers to all the examples done in the class. Don't bother with the textbook but I am telling you now the...

I've come into a problem (BALLB)

yeh I would see an academic advisor and explain this. There are circumstances which allow you to get special permission to do units if you are doing the unit that is a pre-req at the same time.

I've come into a problem (BALLB)

I don't know if there is some rule when it comes to law specifically but in general as long as you meet the pre-reqs for 200 and 300 level units you can do them whenever you want. I just did a 200 level unit in 1st year for example and am doing several 300 levels alongside 200 level units for my...

Which would be better on your gpa?

Hey, I dreaded STAT170. I failed the mid sem exam and everything - then got a D in the end. I think it's about not giving up and really making an effort to get it every week. I was told not to take the psychology one because the STAT is a pre-req of some units and the other isn't and the...

    Exercise books or notebooks?

Just use a lecture pad. I use the perforated ones with punched holes and then tear them out and put them in a folder. Well when I am organised that's what i do . . . In theory.

Uni, 4hrs straight of lessons too much?

Yeh 4 hours is fine - I wouldn't do much more than that personally if I could help it.

    PHL132 or PHL137?

I would personally do PHL137 - I've read in these forums before that it's a really good subject to take especially for Law students. I was going to do it as my people unit but then they added a new one I wanted to do more.

Having a tutorial before lecture of the same subject

I prefer tutorials before lectures. You normally don't have tutorials the first week. If they have tutorials before your first lecture then they obviously have something for you to do. Don't worry about it. Chances are your tutorials will start 2nd week in which case I like reviewing the...

What do you plan to wear to UNI?

I have actually seen someone wearing PJ's and slippers - I was pretty shocked. Just wear normal clothes - nobody cares.

    B Health or...?

Hey, So I'm not doing any of these degree but my advice would be start with what you would ideally/realistically be able to achieve and work backwards. For example if you goal this year is to get into health sciences at USYD then call USYD and ask what you would need to do to transfer. If they...

When are we suppose to buy textbooks?

You can get an idea here: http://www.coop-bookshop.com.au/bookshop/action/DataSubjSelect

When are we suppose to buy textbooks?

Def wait. Some textbooks are not needed just suggested and if you need anything in the first week the library is where you should rush to not the book shop. Also be careful of buying second hand as sometimes they change the version or the actual book from the semester before so even if it's the...
