Selective school kids- would you have got a lower ATAR at a non-selective school?

I reckon that’s true... teachers don’t have to teach cos all the students have done it at tuition already
  2. Q

Selective school kids- would you have got a lower ATAR at a non-selective school?

I am sure there are techies that have gotten well below 80 (80s isn't even a bad score...) and yes, hurlstone has had some scores well below 60 as well. btw hahs>tech... However these are individual cases - not indicative of a whole school. One thing to tell your friend: ATAR is not...

    University of Sydney Medicine undergraduate

Im sure it’s a mixed bag. It's definitely NOT the case that the 99.95ers all become neurosurgeons etc and the rest of the grad cohort become GPs. Specialty can be just personal preference not just academic - imo i think GP is one of the most elusive professions (imagine pulling 300k as a 75 year...

What is the policy for 4u maths at baulko?

    @idkkdi where are the oranges

OMG I thought you were @idkkdi ... ya got me there
  6. Q

    #welcome #general-chat

lol - me... comparative advantage is a good way to put it - i was better at humanities than science (or maybe i just messed around in y11 phys and did shit) so that's why i ended up doing a few
  7. Q

Why is there a gap in atar? UTS vs UNSW

I think it’s not necessarily just supply demand for most courses now that places are uncapped (might not have been the case when you were in y12) - cutoffs seem like an arbitrary line drawn by unis nowadays. However courses like med etc with limited spots would exhibit a more natural supply and...
  8. Q

Why is there a gap in atar? UTS vs UNSW

Sometimes it’s a cyclical thing. Sometimes a “high cutoff” will artificially inflate the demand. Esp with selective students, they will not want to ‘waste’ their ATAR. e.g. BAdvSc is identical to BSc except for one extra subject done in first year except AdvSc is like 15 ATAR points higher to...

    Any 2021 Sci Ext peeps?

    I am feeling very attacked
  10. Q

    Econometrics or Stats

Ceebs wasn’t planning on doing the traditional super/insurance path anyway + I live a long ways away from MQ.
  11. Q

    Econometrics or Stats

Is there a huge difference? Or is doing stats with econometrics kinda redundant? I'm enrolled in BEc BAdvMath(Hons) and was planning on doing economics or econometrics with maths and/or stats, but did a quick plan of the singular BEc degree with a double major in economics and econometrics, and...
  12. Q

Why is there a gap in atar? UTS vs UNSW

IT at UTS vs CS at UNSW are 2 different things. IT at UTS seems more professionally focused (9 month placement for everyone) but is less technically focused than UNSW CS i.e. no maths etc
  13. Q

    I really need a 99 atar

Aussies are more fun trust me
  14. Q

    Medicine 😎

VCE can scale/align above 100 (50/50 can scale up to like 55/50) so you don’t get the diminishing returns thing (e.g. 50 in 4u going to 80, but 99 going to 99). Also they count a little bit of your worst subjects so you get a bonus boost rather than discarding the results like they do here.
  15. Q

    Music notation software recommendations?

Opinion is based on googling finale and sibelius and thinking their interface looked a little bit confusing. Think of it a bit like Photoshop or Facetune. Yes, Photoshop is the *better* editing tool and is much more powerful program, but the free Facetune app is easier to use and if all you...
  16. Q

    Music notation software recommendations?

It’s open source but by no means “rough” and requires zero programming experience. Very intuitive to use so try it out before you pay for any of the more expensive options. Musescore is probably easier for a student to grasp use than Finale or Sibelius which is a time saving feature in itself.
  17. Q

Recovering from a very bad result.

I got 16/30 in my first english adv assignment in yr 11 but I ended up doing quite a bit better in the HSC. You just have to have a little faith in your abilities and believe in yourself.
  18. Q

    Start Making a Good PIP!

Hi Ancient I'm probably the only active person on the forum who did sac so I might be able to help. Your course concepts are in the syllabus - pick a few and see how you can link them to your topic. Once you establish clear links to those concepts then you can incorporate them into your writing.

No giraffes? Definitely happens on the farm.
