as far as i know, they write the exam in such a way as to let your average student pick and choose the questions they CAN do, while giving q7 and 8 to separate the good from the elite. They present the variety of questions to try and get as many people to pass as they can.

if u "dont have the best brain", even if you love maths, it will be harder for you, and you will have to do more work, forfeit social life etc if you want to do well. If you try it, and you find it too difficult, DROP IT, dont keep if for the sake of the scaling, because you will HURT the rest...
