Predictions for this years final q

Yes haha, it was in my trial. I had no clue it hadn't been in any of the past HSC's. Really thought it would've. I still stand by my opinion though. Conics is the ugly child that was fed dog food growing up and always smelt.

Predictions for this years final q

It's not that it's hard. In fact, learning it was quite straightforward. We all know how to find the equations of tangents and normals, set discriminants = 0 and solve simultaneous equations. It's just boring, tedious algebra bashing that's time consuming in the exams. This is probably the...

How hard is getting into the Conservatorium?

I have a friend who plays really awesome classical/flamenco fingerpicking guitar. He doesn't do any of the AMEB stuff though so he has literally zero qualifications, but he's a really smart guy and his ATAR estimate is like 98+. I've heard of there being quotas on how many students they accept...

    Importance of doing past papers

You sound like you're doing a lot of them. Tone it down a bit and focus on English.

How harsh are HSC Economics markers?

Some of my work has been marked by teachers besides my own (some who have done HSC marking) and, in comparison to other subjects, it's surprisingly easy to get an A in extended response. If you just say everything that needs to be said + show a bit of flair in how you relate the concepts to...

Coop Scholarship - Should my tone be formal or blog-ish?

Even if this is a joke, it's so true.

Coop Scholarship - Should my tone be formal or blog-ish?

Hmm see but that's my point I guess. If I'm just another "here's my acheivements and my feigned attempt at reflection" professional types, I risk getting lost in the crowd. I feel like employing an honest but upbeat tone will be more impacting. Like listen to one of the sentences I just chopped...

Coop Scholarship - Should my tone be formal or blog-ish?

Basically how formal should I be? Conversational, light hearted and offbeat or serious and professional?

    Extension 3 maths

Nah, I remember for maybe the first quarter of this year (as I was learning maybe the first three topics in 4U) I still found 3U relatively hard. However, coz I was doing so much practice for 4U, my accuracy and speed improved as well as my fundamental understanding of the topics. Naturally, 3U...

    Extension 3 maths

Is that a relatively high level of maths at uni? I wouldn't know I'm still in HS :P

    Extension 3 maths

This thread got me interested in what a 5U syllabus would look like haha. Here's my mock up set of topics: Linear Algebra Statistics Series (infinite series, convergence tests & notable series such as Taylor and Power series) Possibly some Vector Calc? Introductory Multivariable Calculus (new...

    UMAT results release date?

Well if in the past, they've always released results on a Friday and last year they were released on the 13th (or was it the 16th?), I think we can pretty confidently say they'll be released on the 19th this year (next friday). In other news - shitshitshitshitshit I don't want my results back...

    ATAR prediction

Ok troll post but anyway, there's some toxic shit being said here. You're working for 40+ years of your life. Do whatever the hell makes you happy and won't make you hate your life upon getting up at 6.30am for 5 days a week. It makes me glad to imagine that there's 99+ ATAR students who are...

Writing a scholarship application - word count

OHHHHH mreditor ILY so much. i was wondering how one could write so much hahaha

Writing a scholarship application - word count

Well it's not like it's one lump sum application - it's 8-9 different questions. How are the people reading it going to sift through 9000 words for each of the say, 500-1000 students that apply? Don't you think being concise and economical with your words is worth more than a bit of extra fluff?

Writing a scholarship application - word count

Applying for the UNSW Co-Op scholarship atm and there's about 8-9 questions specified at "Word limit: 1000 words". My question is whether I should aim to write this much, or will it get too fluffy? Will I still have a good chance if I write, say, 500 words for each question?

too many people aiming for 99.95?

Lots of people will tell you you can, but I'm not sure to be honest. I definitely knew many of the stereotypical "super active" white people who were involved in tonnes of sports and EC's who got 99+, but 99.95 is really a whole 'nother demon. I think for .95 you really have to dedicate...

is work experience necessary for scholarships?

They'd probs prefer volunteer work over paid work. Both is even better. That being said, you could theoretically still get it if you're especially strong in other areas, such as representing school in debating, sport, music, + v. good academics. Nothing is really 'required' per se, it's just...

USYD combined law atar is lowered...

That puts almost an extra 200 students in the competition pool for the degree... pretty big deal if you ask me. EDIT: Those people you know that got in with 98.something were probably E12 scholarship recipients
