    tutor needed

Not sure why you need tutoring at uni, to be honest. I could for CHEM1101 but I highly doubt the necessity.

    Developed a crush, EXTREMELY inconvenient!

You guys are getting really obsessive - just go up and say hi, you'll know what to say.

    Benefits of taking advanced units?

It depends on what they're doing it - it is all standards based now so the person next to you has absolutely no bearing on your mark, there's no bell curve. Perhaps they will adjust marks more like how HSC is done but I'm not sure.

    Benefits of taking advanced units?

Yes, 2013 was the last year that "scaling" was used.

liking someone you constantly see on a public transport

Just go up and talk to him.

    Benefits of taking advanced units?

At this stage, it's unclear as to how marks will scale due to the changes made at the university. With that said, SCIWAM only counts in second and third year and it's best to do the hardest units in first year to ensure you have a strong foundation for later years which will probably pay itself...

    Benefits of taking advanced units?

At this stage, nobody really knows how the scaling will work out - most likely, it will be standard based (eg 60% raw for distinction etc) of some sort but we can't tell until the end of this semester. Generally speaking, it's best to just do the advanced unit, especially if it's what you plan...

    Benefits of taking advanced units?

The scaling system has changed at USyd - it has all been removed, at least, the bell curve system is long gone (setting 65 as the mean for chemistry, for example). Also, in previous years, there were a lot more D/HDs in advanced units in any subject. I suspect that they will still need to...

    Essay writing in uni

This. Even if you used a tiny bit, reference it. Also, aim to reference only primary sources. You can lose LOTS of marks if you don't reference properly.

    Missed first two weeks

Well, your lecturer is a douche, to say the least.

    i really need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You probably need to be close to the top in every subject for a school at that rank.

    Missed first two weeks

Contact your lecturer for the ones where the lecture notes aren't on Blackboard. If you explain the situation, they'll probably give you something to do - especially considering your reason.

    Indicators for Titrations

You can use anything that changes colour at or near pH of 7 because that's what would indicate that it has completely neutralised.

    Difference between Quanta and Photon

This. Quanta is simply a packet of anything - photons are just a quantum of light.

    How safe is Redfern?

You can just catch a campus bus there - that's probably the best option. Generally, walking through Redfern between the university and the station is fine. I did it at like, 11PM or something and nothing happened.

    Textbook for CHEM1101?

You don't need the textbook - lecture slides are more than enough. Believe me, I have the textbook but never used it and got 85 in CHEM1901 - same goes for 95% of the other HDs.

Suggestions/things to do during long breaks between classes?

Meet BoS peeps. But yeah, it's pretty much free time - you can roam, go for a run, gym, meet up with people etc.

Need 3 more elective credit points?

Shoot an email to the relevant staff members - you are very close and if you explain your situation (and how you're interested etc), there's a chance that they'll let you in.

    Should I buy textbooks??

Buy the maths textbooks/notes but not the chemistry one - the chemistry lecture slides/notes are more than enough.
