    actuarial studies

adv maths is essentially same as b sci (math) with honours, but with adv maths, you have to do certain courses like SCIF that are pointless. Plus a double major in maths and stats is possible under b sci

    actuarial studies

Also integration plays a huge role in probability theory, so you might want to review that as well.

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

A statistics major alone would do fine. You can either do computer science to boost programming skills, applied for more modelling skills or do pure maths for fun. Also if you want to do a stats major, if it helps, UNSW is accredited by the statistical society of Australia, while Usyd isnt...

Who supports the Green's initiative to abolish university fees?

Given their size, they provide employment for a lot of people. That has to benefit society more than super taxes do (also, more people earning income -> more income tax). If they were taxed more, who do you think will really lose out? Do you honestly think that CEO are willing to let go of...

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

Depends on how much you enjoy finance and maths. If you enjoy it, workload should be fine.

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

As a statistician, you can enter fields such as medical research (statistical analysis with appropriate medical knowledge), economics (working for the ABS or the reserve bank given appropriate economics background as well). However, these all require some knowledge in non mathematical fields, so...

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

Your high school maths teacher sounds like a douchebag.

    actuarial studies

    - unsw and mac are around the same - com/economics or com/science (maths/stats) - overrated - you work hard, you will be fine - 75+ (distinction+) - interesting but different, involves conceptual understanding rather than repetitive application in hsc maths

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

You dont have to teach high school kids if you dont want to lol. I only said national priority encourages people to pursue teaching, it doesnt mean they have to do it. One could use a maths degree for many career opportunities.

Advantages of Actuarial Studies at UNSW

The main advantage of UNSW is the flexibility - it is easy to change to a different major if you feel actuarial is not for you. Otherwise its really the same as Maq

Advantages of Actuarial Studies at Maq

Advantages: - Prestige i guess as it was the first one - Location may suit you better (depends on where you live) Not too many advantages over UNSW. Actuarial degrees are generally similar and just involve attaining all the exemptions.

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

+1. Statistics courses under a maths faculty are often quite theoretical and interesting, while statistics courses under a non math faculty (eg. commerce and engineering usually have some sort of statistics course) are rather boring and usually just involve number crunching. A good example of...

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

In particular, maths is national priority in order to encourage people to pursue teaching high school mathematics as a career, where australia has a shortage of. National priority means that maths courses cost less than other courses, it doesnt mean that you will earn a lot (high school maths...

    Complex numbers CONTRADICTION?

    1/z=conj(z) only holds if mod(z)=|z|=1 otherwise 1/z= conj(z)/|z|^2

My Mathematics Major: Pure, Applied or Statistics?

I wouldnt worry about choosing in first year as everyone does the same courses which cover most areas briefly. By that time youve done first year you should have a better idea of what you want to do. But pure mathematics is pretty cool though.

Looking back at High School Work for Uni?

Dont forget: eigenvalues and eigenvectors (linear algebra) a bit of complex numbers Dealing with vectors in n dimensional space RIGOROUS and FORMAL epsilon delta definition of limits Most of the said theorems mentioned in calculus are very intuitive and can be seem through graphs...

More Locus Problems - NEED HELP

    x/a=(p-1/p) (x/a)^2=p^2+1/p^2-2 y/a= (p + p^3 - q)/p=(p + p^3 + 1/p)/p= 1+p^2+1/p^2 now you have common p^2+1/p^2 in equations of x and y, so i shall leave the rest for you to complete.

More Locus Problems - NEED HELP

Remember PQ is a focal chord. Use that to get a relation between p and q.

Bachelor of Accounting @ UTS vs UNSW Co-op accounting

unless there is a scholarship attached to uts which is worth more than co-op and also incorporates work experience, this is a no brainer
