    MATH1041 - Statistics

Very little statistics are taught in 3u/4u maths. I think students who did general maths will be better prepared but the handbook doesnt have any pre-requisite requirements so if you work hard you should be fine.

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

That works well at the moment but is it likely to change when you flood out 2200~ graduates in 2012 and this does not include international students. When you have about 800~intern places (assuming that they don't increase the amount of intern places by then) do you think they are going to keep...

What that statement meant was that IF med school played a role it wouldnt have any impact beyond internships. I am not assuming whether or not it will play a role but i agree with you in that it is highly unlikely that it will. Im not the one saying that the govt "most likely" create more intern...

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

If you go to med school outside of NSW then it'll be much harder for you to come back and do your internship here as all the NSW graduates would be given first preference. Sure you might get an internship in victoria but i think they base it on marks - im not sure about this but if it were...

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

I'm not having a go at you here but I'd be thinking the same thing if i was at a lower ranked university. :haha: Its highly unlikely that it would happen and if it does it wont have any impact beyond internship. I hope it doesnt go down that road because I'd rather go to uws than unsw :)

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

Since the impact of the med student tsunami hasn't hit yet its hard to tell how things will work in a few years time. It could be a possibility that students from certain universities are looked upon more favorably than others. Sure its unlikely but you cant tell until the time comes.

When they talk about 62 thats their RAW score or avg score. When you get your UMAT results it will look like this: Section 1:61 Section 2: 59 Section 3: 60 Percentile: 90...

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

I doubt it ever will. I mean if I'm paying to be looked after I wouldn't want to come anywhere near an intern. Isn't that why you go to a public hospital anyway?

    Grade Point Average?

This is just going to get higher and higher. I'd say 6.5 min = 80 WAM There are only 15 places and this year they have close to 200 people in the course. Considering people have 3 shots at umat most end up getting one with 190+.

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

Macquarie University university has built a massive teaching hospital (do a google search and check it out-its pretty awesome) but I dont think they will have interns there.

So they don't have interviews when allocation internships? I thought we were talking about internships :|

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

Do they have interviews for internships? So its like any other job? If Hons. and such make a difference and UWS has integrated honours so you don't have to do an extra year i'd imagine it would be pretty competitive?

    Difference between CHEM1031 and CHEM1011?

Okay here is the answer from the semester 1 information pdf we got in the mail: OBJECTIVES OF CHEM1011 AND CHEM1031 Both Essentials of Chemistry 1A and Higher Chemistry 1A aim to extend your understanding of the basic principles of Chemistry that underlie our understanding of matter by...

    Difference between CHEM1031 and CHEM1011?

I guess I'll have to wait and see then. Im actually pretty excited about first year. Its going to be one hell of an year and im sure ill have a lot of fun, can't wait! If I do get into med this year ill be slightly annoyed that i wont be able to do the second year subjects which look really...

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

From what I know its randomised. They could go down the victorian way by allocating them by marks? I doubt university reputation will make a difference especially if both the courses are amc accredited.

    Difference between CHEM1031 and CHEM1011?

Are you sure? I was told that they do the same test except higher chem students will be able to attempt a few bonus questions?

Paths into Australian Medicine - Flowchart

Why do you think you wont get in straight away? You only need 93 ATAR + a decent UMAT.
