    galvanic cells

Why don't you choose something simpler like the dry cell or silver oxide cell? In the end it doesn't make a difference, as long as you answer the questions and refer to the areas posted by theChemCoach.

    TUTOR NEEDED! Please..

Strathfield's quite close to me, so if you still need a Chemistry tutor, go here. (Bumping a very old thread. :p)

Need a list of some Acidic Oxides

P2O5? Basically an oxide of any non-metal - except CO, N2O, NO and noble gases.

    Chem & which maths?

For some calculations you need to be able to think logically. Others are simply subbing values into formulae. It would also help if you knew your calculator functions well.

    risk asssessment...help??

You can find prac reports [SIZE=-1][SIZE=1]http://www.geocities.com/jamesyscience"]HERE. Ethanol is produced in fermentation, and is volatile, so you should take care not to let it near flames. You'd then have the standard lab safety precautions such as wearing goggles and handling equipment...

    Molar volume

Sometimes their questions are wrong too. There's one question about naming esters that had a hydrogen atom double bonded to an oxygen atom.

    Oxidation numbers

It balances the oxygen atoms, but I don't get it either. How can the products - Cu(NO3)2 and H2 - be written as 3CU2+ + 2NO + 4H2O? Copper ions is okay, because copper nitrate is not a precipitate in solution, but nitrogen oxide and water? Those aren't even products of acid + metal reactions...

Moisturisers! What do you use? Does it work?

Sometimes simpler, cheaper skincare products are more effective. My mum has a friend who blew tons of money on expensive anti-ageing cremes and found out that the supermarket $5 product worked the best. It also depends on your skin type. I use Cetaphil facewash and Nivea face+body moisturiser...

    Need help!2chemistry Qs

    We're assuming that 1 g = 1 mL. So 1 L = 1 kg. 1 kg contains 1000 g, and 1000 g contains 1000 mg. .: 1 kg contains 1 000 000 mg.

    Decarbonation of soft drink

I don't know exactly why, but salt causes dehydration, and since water is a reactant, dehydration of the equilibrium will shift it to the left, producing more water and carbon dioxide. After thinking about it, I'm guessing that the salt in solution is stopping the water from reacting with the...

Esters- Structual Formula and Other Problems

R1-COO-R2, where R1 was the alkanoic acid and R2 was the alkanol. There's no hydrogen atom. Both hydrogen atoms from the two OH groups were consumed in producing water.

decarbonating sogt drink (using salt or heating?)

Yes. You want the CO2 to leave the bottle.

    Grey's Anatomy vs House

House, because he's a dickhead. Also because he makes me giggle. But I don't think I can make a fair judgement, having seen 0 episodes of Grey's Anatomy to date.

Esters- Structual Formula and Other Problems

I suppose that depends on from which source the information is obtained. In the equation of the reaction which is: CH3-COOH + HO-CH2-CH3 → CH3-COO-CH2-CH3 (Conquering Chemistry) It's not clear whether the hydroxy group is detached from the alkanoic acid or the alkanol. EDIT: Actually, I...

Esters- Structual Formula and Other Problems

The -COOH (carboxylic acid group) implies the -C=O bond. :)

    Need help!2chemistry Qs

Supposedly when an acidic oxide reacts with a base, the product is a salt - I would imagine it would be NaCl in this case.
