Reflections of a 4th yr pharm student--pls read if you're considering pharm

The reality is, and I see it myself - so many pharm students are there because they ultimately wanna do med. They tell me this themselves. To answer your question, thetai903, getting Ds and HDs in first year isn't impossible - but you do need to put alot of work in and be consistent. If you...

Hahahaha yep, MBLG1001 was a killer. Probably one of my hardest units last sem - but did well in the end :) Didn't really like Bruce Lyon's lecturing - he just spoke too fast and not clearly enough.

    Pharmacy Sydney Uni

Yep, and also Pharmacy practice and other areas. Will be interesting, hopefully.

    Pharmacy @ usyd

To be honest, I'm not quite sure how combined degrees work - but I would imagine that you would have some science, and maybe some commerce units throughout your candidature, or you might do all the science units, and then your commerce units in separate blocks, leading to the combined degree...

    Pharmacy Sydney Uni

With the new curriculum, Pharmacy is actually an even better undergrad course for Med. The 3rd year units of study are now more like in a Med degree, you focus on body systems (ie Respiratory, Endocrine, Gastro etc.) and thats what the actual units of study are called by, eg. "PHAR3811...

    Pharmacy @ usyd

Well B.Sc. and B.Pharm. degrees are quite different from your humanities courses like Psyc etc. The normal structure for a Unit of Study in a B.Sc. or B.Pharm. is Lecture/Tutorial/Lab. Usually 2-3 lectures per week (1h each), maybe a 2hr workshop/tutorial and then a 3hr (can be up to 5hrs)...

    TIPS for writing notes

I'm not sure about the course you're going to do... but usually lecture slides/notes are posted up on the web before the actual lecture. Print them off and annotate them in the lecture. Rarely do I see people writing notes on a notepad/paper. Usually people just annotate/write on their lecture...

    Uni study vs HSC study

To be honest I don't study that much, it's just that I buckle down when it comes down to stuvac.

    What to choose?

Well Pharmacy is fundamentally different to the other two. Do you see yourself in a healthcare profession for the rest of your life? if so, then choose Pharmacy, its quite flexible. If you're more into engineering and see yourself doing that for the rest of your life, then choose that...

Can i still get into sydney uni??

I think I remember that last year there were vacancies in that course after main round of offers. In the late round, the UAI cut-off is kind of weakened.. they tend to make offers to people up to 5 points below the cut-off.

I think that 92.60 is an equivalent ATAR from last year's UAI cut-off (91.90). There is a downward trend in the cut-off over the past few years. Good luck in getting in!

It's always an advantage to be working in a pharmacy as an undergrad. You learn on the job itself - so you learn about the profession from an early stage in your career.

missed by 0.4 getting into pharm usyd. any chance of getting in? =S

All they've done is given the equivalent ATAR for last year's cut-off. It could be lower or higher this year, depending on the demand/intake. Over the last few years, the trend for the cut-off has been downwards.
