Dropping 3u Maths for 3u Language?

It's your choice whether you choose to drop ext, but I'd wait until your ranks come out until you make a final judgment. With open high school, if you're a self motivated learner, it's great, but otherwise, the frees you get from it can distract you instead. Also, I think they have some...

    Advice for textbook types

Consider getting past paper books too- I found them more useful than textbooks to reconsolidate knowledge

Don't spend 1 page on a one mark question. Write to the amount of marks available, and section your time accordingly

    Essay writing - what tense?

Idk if this helps, but usually I find its when I'm further explaining a topic, or adding additional techniques/analyse on a quote that I tend to do "furthermore, alliteration is used by Shakespeare to (blah)", but I start off by "Shakespeare uses alliteration to (blah)" TBH I never paid...

    subject selection for y11 ??

I think it's always a good idea to have a course or area in mind for uni, so if one of those requires a science prerequisite be aware of it. theres nothing wrong doing the 3 social sciences, they all interrelate to each other, so you'll find that a case study in business could be used as a side...

More extension subjects = more ATAR points?

If you don't, they're not counted anyway (>10 units) in your atar calculation, like me.

    English Speeches

Believe it or not, I actually liked speeches. But here's my few cents of advice - have an interesting introduction. At least your audience, and your marker, won't go to sleep in the first 10 seconds of your presentation, and they'll take you more seriously than a person who starts with "good...

Advice for Music 2 + Music Extension

Performance is definitely the easiest route to go. Though I didn't personally do music extension cause I'm not prodigy at violin, the musicology extension requires you to write about some area of music that no one else has written about, eg. one kid did it at my school and they wrote about their...

    Urban Places: Megacities (Mumbai)

Kolmias has given you a pretty decent springboard for issues, but the question also asks for responses, which in my opinion, are always much harder to find, let alone a response that you could write ~70-100 words about. I don't know how much I could help you without literally researching the...

Failed 3rd assessments! Atar estimate plz with these current ranks?

Go look on your school's website for their annual school report where you can see how many people usually get band 6 in that subject and judge your internal rank accordingly. I'm a newbie to this whole "estimate my atar" business, but I'd say you'll at least get over 90.

How many hours of sleep do you need to function for the HSC?

For me, I think i had around 8 hours sleep every night (except when my composition portfolio was due the day after), but I'm probably an exception to the vast majority of people, going to sleep at 10:30pm :)

    Year 11 Subject advice please

And also, if you don't do extension English, you have more time to focus on getting good marks in Adv. Engljsh (which defs counts in atar calculations)

    Should I make notes?

For me, I always find doing past papers/questions is the best way to reinforce knowledge, esp. In maths. But, again personal preference. What you could do, as you're in year 11 I assume, is to try out both methods and see which one you like/hate. Eg. In year 11 for me I tried typing Chem notes...

    Urgent help for yr 11!

I think your subject choices are fine, just beware the Society and Culture has a PIP (personal interest project) in year 12- but yeah choose what you like, making sure to do prerequisites listed on Uni subjects for possible courses you'd like to do, and you can get that high atar, if you try...

    Subject Selection Advice pls

Lumenoria and bujolover have both nicely summed up the extensions, and well since I did music I thought I'd pitch in. Music 2 is a demanding course, you'll always have to practice an hour each day, on top of composition tasks that drive you insane and musicology extended responses and...

About number of pieces of Music Composition

If this is your core composition that you're talking about, then yes, you'll probably have to go through stages of refinement if you didn't chose comp as your elective in music 2 or Extension. It does count for like 30% of your HSC mark (and probably the same for internals), and it's the only...
