    What to DO at ANU?

Pre-law in the United States is a specialised arts degree for a reason. There's nothing wrong with doing an arts degree with law. Learning languages and studying philosophy and history will make you a more well rounded person, and that can only be a good thing! As I said before, commerce and...

    What to DO at ANU?

You wouldn't major in economics if you did a commerce/law degree, you'd just do an economics/law degree. It's an urban myth that commerce/law will increase your employability in a legal position over arts/law, science/law or other combinations. While commerce increases your OPTIONS (i.e. you can...

Brutal. Seriously, brutal. I'm not too worried though, I have a good job lined up in the holidays and possibly 2009 if I miss out.

    Official Xbox 360 Thread

What do you guys use your hard-drive for? I've been thinking of getting a 360 to go with my wii but I'm not sure whether to go arcade or premium. Are there any expected hardware improvements that I should wait for before purchasing and has the console's reliability improved? Also, I must say...

    a few questions...

It's a course on judicial decision making and government policy formation, so it isn't a complete waste of time. I made myself enjoy legal theory by constantly bringing up Posner in seminars i.e. trying to talk about selling organs and babies on the free market.

    a few questions...

I disagree. Alot of electives are based on core courses. For example, you'd want a good grasp of international law before trying international trade law or private international law or corporate law before trying takeovers and securities law. That isn't to say that you'll do badly in...

    Labor Right Steamrolls Again

I can't help but feel cheated that the Indies missed out on treasurer by 30 out of 1600 votes and international by 2 out 360 votes. We lost the newspaper and international... but at least we got sexuality?!? :(

    ANU over Monash

I stayed at Mannix college at Monash for a week. Maybe I'm spoiled because the ANU is only a 10 minute walk away from the CBD, but the half hour bus trip into Melbourne proper really irritated me.

    a few questions...

If you know how to study properly it's easy to consistently pull anything from high credits to distinctions. The people who tend to over-stress and burn themselves out in law, particularly in first year, are killing themselves because they are reading 30 odd cases a week. If you decide to do...

A friend of mine got rejected from the ACCC and didn't get an interview at Attorney Generals despite a HD average and a probable university medal. Who knows what they're looking for!

    notes

Because the legal principle would be different if you wrote the same principle down in your own notes? Using other people's notes is fine, just don't expect to do as well as if you'd bother to learn the material for yourself.

    Summer clerkships

By all accounts the senior partner at BDW Canberra is the complete opposite. In a final round interview when there were only 12 candidates left, she harangued a friend of mine over his distinction average. Comments like 'you did well in electives, but they mark those really easily' and 'with...

    Summer clerkships

'twas a joke because their pitch at careers fair is 'grow your career with BDW' and while I didn't write that on my cover letter, or anything like it, I do think baby boomer recruiters would enjoy seeing corporate power words and cliches on a resume. Things like, 'pro-active approach to task...

ANU work experience and what's it's really like in Canberra

There are heaps of government departments in Canberra and most major Australian law firms have offices here. As Jason said though, don't expect to get those jobs in your first year. I do know people who've started working in government departments from their second year and large law firms in...
