    Natural monopolies?

Splitting hairs. Which should it own and why?

Criminal Krudd to hand over our wealth

I was indeed deeply hurt by your cutting observation.... Tip: read my 12:13AM post where I tacitly approved of democratic process. That's a straw man argument. Though I do broadly agree that the combination of people voting and the balance of enshrined protection of liberties is the best...

Criminal Krudd to hand over our wealth

We aren't paid by the taxpayer or elected by citizens to make decisions. Your comment is about as relevant as saying that there is lots of squabbling in childcare centres (tbh though probably less there than in politics).

Criminal Krudd to hand over our wealth

I regularly have this argument with one of my statist friends. My response is that as the others have said there is not a realistic way for me to resist without being thrown in jail, shot or otherwise severely punished by the state. Also I reject the idea of imposing my views through force so...

    Natural monopolies?

Is there such a thing as a natural monopoly and if there is should the Government own them?

Criminal Krudd to hand over our wealth

Tip: they do once a year. It's called the budget. I'm fully aware of what the Government pays for and how much/who it taxes to do it. If anything the knowledge makes me more anti-government not less.

    Should chaplaincy continue ?

Insofar as the state exists the church should be separate to it. This means no chaplains in schools. If however the state did not fund schools then perhaps private institutions could chose to provide a chaplaincy service to their students. I am interested in what the libertarian perspective on...

Criminal Krudd to hand over our wealth

I don't know if the figures are actually half but it is a big issue. I don't think it is helpful to frame it as 'paying no tax' because that tends to cast it in a good light when it is actually a bad thing...

Criminal Krudd to hand over our wealth

Actually as a result of inflation causing bracket creep I think that there are plenty of people who are paying a marginal rate of ~40% (income tax plus ML/etc)... after all you just need to earn $80k+ to do that... To actually approach an effective rate of 45% people would have to be...

Criminal Krudd to hand over our wealth

The feeling fades when your effective marginal rate is more than 50% Actually I never had that feeling at all... what I had was the feeling of personal pride and individual accomplishment when I earned my first pay and then chose to spend it in the manner which I saw fit. And I've been feeling...

    Greg Bird glassing conviction quashed

I've been in plenty of fights but I can't say that I'm proud of that. Fact is that Bird is much larger and stronger than Milligan, that puts him in a position of being able to relatively easily control her in a fight. The image I have is of him playing the "why are you hitting yourself?" game...
