    Presidential Election

Re: First Presidential Debate Probably because it's a rousing rhetorical device to be able to say that you support the troops more than the other guy does.

    Presidential Election

Re: First Presidential Debate Kerry did come very close which given the nationalist fervour that was running around the Iraq war was pretty impressive.

    Presidential Election

Re: First Presidential Debate I'm torn, I personally like Obama more but I accept that invariably, roughly half the time we are going to have Republican Presidents in the Whitehouse and Romney seems to be far and away the most progressive, moderate republican candidate for the Whitehouse in...

    Presidential Election

Re: First Presidential Debate Anyone who says Obama performed better in the debate is either a liar or a fool but at the same time anyone who thinks he performed so poorly as to have seriously shaped the result of the election is delusional. For months there has been this narrative crafted...

Why I burned my 'Proof of Aboriginality'

    Stuff like this http://www.aihw.gov.au/closingthegap/documents/annual_papers/what_works_to_overcome_disadvantage.pdf

Why I burned my 'Proof of Aboriginality'

It's completely relevant because a moment ago you suggested these programs were not developed on the basis of well founded research and policy development. And you pretty much do it again here with your stupid "they just throw money at the problem" line, as though public servants and academics...

Why I burned my 'Proof of Aboriginality'

You don't think these scholarship programs were in part formulated on the basis of government and academic research?

Why I burned my 'Proof of Aboriginality'

Are you honestly saying that you don't think there has been, and there is continuing, substantial research and strategic policy development in "closing the gap" policies?

    Republic?

I think Britain should become a republic. But after Dennis Skinner retires from the commons, he's too much fun with his Queen heckling.

    Asylum seeker debacle

Yes you can, he was toppled because folk thought he was too matey with the communist party.

    Carbon emissions trading scheme backdown

Nice to see you've started calling it what it for what it really is.

    Asylum seeker debacle

Maybe they'd be doing a little better if the CIA hadn't taken out Soekarno and installed a fascist in his place.

    Part Time Job Post-HSC

For real money, join a labour recruitment agency to try and get some picker/packer work. Get a forklift license to double your chances, but be prepared to work hard. Lot of precious/lazy types start off and then only end up getting one shift a month or whatever because they aren't productive...

Lance Armstrong to be stripped of titles

So pretty much Evans and Sastre are the only legit winners of the tour in the last 15 years. Cool.

NSW University Pro Life Club Victimised

Is that really so hateful? Downplaying the importance of is a lot gentler than some of the campaigns that I've come across, saying it would lead to bestiality sodomy rape of heterosexuals etc, now those are hateful campaigns.

Tony abbot beat by the truth.

Let's all reminisce about this famous demolition job Jones did on Abbott back in 09.

Tony abbot beat by the truth.

To be fair I'm growing increasingly bored of this Paxman style interview that Sales, O'brien, Ulhman Trioli, Cassidy, Speers etc all seem to be adopting. I think as Tony Jones and Laurie Oakes have consistently shown you can be a perceptive interviewer without being a heavyhanded intellectual...

Bid to ban cigarettes for anyone born after 2000

Don't view it in absolutes, if you're going to fairly consider don't ask if it will end all smoking ever(nothing will) or if it will mitigate the smoking "problem" at all. I think it possible could, though at what cost Caesar?

Bid to ban cigarettes for anyone born after 2000

Sits uneasily with me, is there a precedent for this sort of thing? Saying that someone can't do something, irrespective of age, if they are born after a certain date? Receive a pension I suppose...
