    Cadetships 2013 thread

I'm assuming you're talking your hsc results from a year ago- to be honest they don't provide much value to an employer since you've already gotten into uni and into the required course for CA eligibility.

    Legt2721 legit question guise

I did it a very long time ago but back then it was just contract law. I found it interesting and it actually inspired me to like business law a lot more (since I started HD'ing all the LEGT subjects). Yes there are readings but they aren't that heavy and luckily they make sense so you can read...

    Writing resumes

The reality is whether you got a HD in Mathematics or a Credit in Science means jack all to a retail job (unless it's in a specific field- e.g. Computing might do well if you are applying for a job at Dick Smith). Try to keep it relevant and don't be afraid to be honest that the reason you're...

    breaking into accounting

There was a time in the past two or three years where firms were more open to taking people on with certain visas/etc (i.e. international students) but the reality is if you aren't local or PR, the firm essentially needs to sponsor you and hence they will expect you to be that much better than...

    breaking into accounting

It's not a bad idea but TBH you'd probably get more from doing extra curricular activities and jobs which involve working in teams/coaching others. The main benefit of working in accounting beforehand is either to a) already learn stuff to minimise the amount of training/upskilling needed to get...

    breaking into accounting

It varies significantly and also depends when you mean by 'start off'? The CA program is done after you've worked a bit after finishing uni so what you're really asking is "how much does a CA earn" to which I reply it varies significantly since being a CA is not a job. It's a qualification.

    breaking into accounting

I think it varies largely depending on who you talk to. Most of my friends (AFAIK) went through either cadetships or vacation work in large firms/banks/companies and then were offered graduate positions. For those who didn't, they entered as graduates through the grad programs or went back to...

    breaking into accounting

This. I'd say there's a lot more at play than this. Unless he only applied for very few roles (e.g. Big 4) but failed to meet any of the other criteria we set.

What kind of tea do you like?

drank that a lot as a kid- from memory it's alot sweeter than the real thing; but now that i'm older, i'm less reliant on sugar to enjoy things :)

Why do people look down on UTS business so much?

Again, which area? That being said the (once known as the) Millionaire's factory does have it's own culture embedded throughout the organisation from the top all the way down...

    haven't been paid?

If pay day was yesterday (Monday), I'd give it a day or two just to ensure funds can clear and be deposited into your account.

    How do you handle breaks?

Watch out for security though. They wake you up if they catch you snoozing.

    legal dictionary

Yeah. Like all uni books nothing is worse than buying a book which isn't actually required- or worse yet, a book which your lecturer specifically doesn't like.

    Commerce Core subjects

this. The server can become very slow and it helps if you know exactly what you want beforehand.

    How do you handle breaks?

Breaks are a great way to relax and ensure you're not too rushed for your next class- and also a great opportunity to catch up on readings if you haven't done them before your lecture (or *gasp* tutorial). You'll make friends who have similar break times to you which will give you people to hang...
