To answer your PM you don't need 3u maths to do finance in uni. I don't even think you need 2u anymore but as always, having good maths skills will help.

That's true, but doing well at Comm/Law is even better if you're looking for front office. I suppose it's also worth noting that some of the concepts in law are relevant to a lot of roles in front office (other than trading).

How do you know that your application number doesn't include; a) other roles being advertised and b) previous recruitment drives?

I've always viewed taxation a little different to you. I see it as reflecting the non-market costs whether it be for the clean air, the security (e.g. lower crime levels), the climate, etc... pretty much anything which you can't necessarily put a price on whether it be a social cost or something...
