    Risk Management in Banking/Finance

Nah IB has a very different focus and skillset. Whilst both are competitive and have various ways of culling top candidates from the best and most lucrative grad jobs, one is a business which involves transformation and movement of capital whilst the other is simply organised gambling (aka...

    Risk Management in Banking/Finance

Working in a trading role in a financial institution where you either buy/sell for clients, or you do proprietary trading where you buy/sell for the bank (i.e. you gamble using the bank's money). Both are very competitive and highly paid jobs, but they really look for people who are extremely...

Ipads? An investment or a waste?

That's true. The Notes app on the iPad really is just for one off notes. I've seen people use a stylus to take notes down in meetings that way but it just doesn't capture it in a very easy to read/use manner. Far better off either typing on a laptop or scribbling on a (paper) note pad.

    Ambition?

Yes, yes, yes and I got a job. One thing which amazed me both at uni and in the workplace is that not everyone is that ambitious- some people are very happy to sit on a sub $100k income for the rest of their life. It's not a bad thing- just shows they are happy with what they're doing and just...

    english compulsary in uni?

The challenge with four units of English though is that it isn't necessarily a subject where hard work will yield good results. It's not a subject where you can rote learn or just put hours and hours of practice in to get a better outcome. It really does require passion or at least a strong...

    What Phone Do You Use?

I liked my Nokia E71 a lot (brother/sister phone to the E63). Had the best layout, keyboard, etc. Only thing missing was decent email support and a slightly less washed out screen but it worked great and I could find my way around it easily.

What does your desk look like?

Wow interesting to see desks these days... back in my day (not that long ago) maybe half of people had a laptop- I had a trusty desktop computer in one of those old school computer desk arrangements with the slide out keyboard tray (in fact I still do). Here's my desk in my NY apartment...

Ipads? An investment or a waste?

Not the same unfortunately at least for my needs but might be sufficient for a typical uni student. Given the focus on group work in uni assignments I don't think I'd want to be the one who is trying to do everything in a different format to others. And yes I am aware that it can save in word...

Ipads? An investment or a waste?

Laptop for uni- preferably an ultrabook with good battery life. I love my iPad and my Macbook Air but if I had to choose one for uni, definitely the latter. With the iPad you'll always be hoping you don't need to login to any websites which don't support it, or the horrendous uni intranet...

    Risk Management in Banking/Finance

Not a bad choice but if you're doing it with the sole focus of getting into risk management, you might be better off with economics or something more relevant to the topic of risk management rather than focussing on maths. Trading on the other hand would work well if you were interested in that...

Economies and their Similarities and Differences

Japan would be fine. Plenty of information available. That being said, I don't think the risk of 'fake statistics' is really a concern for you as the ability to assess the reliability, validity and independence of data is not part of the syllabus nor is it expected (beyond the obvious of not...

    Risk Management in Banking/Finance

What I don't get is why people on this board are so concerned about how others perceive the job etc... as far as I can tell, the people who whinge and complain about stereotypes, caps, etc... are people who are either still studying their degree or in high school. Seriously guys, as long as it's...

    Post your desktop screenshot.

That's an extremely tidy desk you have there. My setup involves either one or two laptops, and a second external 24" monitor. This way if one goes down for whatever reason I'm still connected/able to quickly reconnect and continue working. I'd take a photo but it's pretty messy. Here's a photo...

    GT 86 Price

^ I think it's because many people in the forum space are power-chasing and really think of horsepower as the lone measure and not as a relative measure (e.g. power to weight ratio). Either way though, relying solely on quantitative factors when analysing or comparing a car is rather limited and...
