B Commerce and Science (adv. Math)

Not meaning to disagree with the above but I've met with some HR reps from some of the trading/boutique firms and interestingly they look for the non-finance degrees such as maths. I asked why and their response was so that you aren't clouded with definitions and rules which may not actually be...

    What is investment banking?

This thread also highlights one of the glaring omissions in university statistics- the employment rate. Many unis, mine included, boasted of what % of people graduated with a full time job. Sounds great in the orientation week speech/presentations but when you think about it, most people do uni...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

In all honesty maybe a cadetship isn't for you. It's really aimed at people who want to get through uni asap and get their post-grad qualifications (i.e. CA). CA is really when you are valuable both to your employer and other companies, and it's when you also have the most power (i.e. you can...

What car do you drive? (the new one)

One of my mates took out a personal loan to buy a C63. As tempting as it may be, I think I might hold off. Don't think I could justify spending $20k in interest each year on top of insurance and petrol.

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

In short, 1. 4 years but you only are working 2 of those. Read thread for more explanations. 2. Pay varies year on year but expect low 30's. It's not a lot but it's more than enough especially if you are working in a firm which gives you a day off per week during semester (i.e. you are only...

CA Program - Ask questions, get answers! (new and improved)

I believe for UNSW we don't require or teach how to use it at all (surprisingly). I suppose it's more important to understand the underlying data and how it works, as opposed to the system used to extract the data. From memory UTS teaches students how to use MYOB which is a bit more practical...

NEED URGENT ADVICE: Can I/Should I do a Commerce degree when I've no Comm Background?

Re: NEED URGENT ADVICE: Can I/Should I do a Commerce degree when I've no Comm Backgro You have to start again from 1st year if the subjects you've done in Commerce bear no relevance to your new course. It's quite simple really- unlike high school where you progress year on year and become Year...

    Are lectures recorded?

Really depends on lecturer and course. Don't bet on it if you're hoping to get out of going to lectures. Truth be told, recorded lectures are crap for learning- they make even attending and half paying attention seem far more worthwhile.

What car do you drive? (the new one)

Thanks. I've been getting a lot of thumbs up (and random people touching my car based on the number of fingerprints) lately :)

What car do you drive? (the new one)

LOL it's not my garage- I had to drop my Mum off for lunch at Thornleigh and saw an ideal spot to take photos with lighting which only covered half the car. With a bit of luck I parked my car directly below it so the lighting hit the natural seam in the bonnet (i.e. the centre line) and then...

What car do you drive? (the new one)

My Benz is the first car I've had with parking sensors and wow it makes life so much easier. I feel so lazy now though. Oh, and here's a photo I took today.

    Which uni for B Commerce?

Agreed, you have to be committed to do well in uni. Not so much about being smart anymore since everyone is on a pretty level playing field in terms of ability. If I were the OP I wouldn't be too worried because at the end of the day, marks don't matter that much as long as you have the piece of...

What car do you drive? (the new one)

Fair call. I quite like the Z32 300ZX a lot (posted about it on BoS yonks ago) which is one more generation- it was the last of the Fairladys which weren't just prettied up to attract cashed up mainstream. Dang that does make it sound difficult that there's no external CD changer/AUX in slot...

Would you ever consider installing a new stereo/head unit to get those features for iPod?

    Which uni for B Commerce?

Hi Jack If I were you, then I'd make the most of the ATAR and go with one of the unis you mentioned. Even if the course content is the same, the reputation of the uni and 'stigma' attached to it won't be. The higher cutoff courses typically attract the mentality that it's better because that's...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

None. You just need to be in a CA recognised degree. Are you starting your cadetship in 2012 or 2013? If the latter you may be able to change to a suitable course if you missed out initially. (edit; if you saw my previous comment it was my mistake in confusion about someone else)

What car do you drive? (the new one)

LOL remember I am a lot older than some of you guys- i.e. I've finished post graduate studies on top of my undergraduate degree (on top of my HSC)!
