Hmm....mine was actually reported out of 105. I am also not sure why they reported yours out of 100.
I'd say it might be accounting for the weighting of paper 2 (60%) and paper 1 (40%)

You gave me a scan of the letter you received which shows it as being reported out of 100... ?

I suppose that makes sense - simply adding the results from both papers to produce a mark out of 105 ignores the appropriate weightings. My mark might be wrong.

I assume you are talking about what raw marks would get you into the top band for each subject:

We don't have sufficient data yet; as you may have read, Lazarus is intending to work out other band cut-offs, but until then, this is a really inaccurate estimate:

Mathematics: 94/120
Mathematics (Extension 1): 68/84
English (Advanced): 81/100
English (Extension 1): No idea.
Physics: 80/100
Chemistry: No idea.

I would say that Maths Extension 1 would be around 58-62, not 68 - or else I definitely wouldn't have got 48/50.

But remember you cant count on them being the same for next year

eg. For English Advanced in 2001 Lazarus' 77 aligned to 84 whilst in 2004 my 76 aligned to 86.

But I'm guessing that you are planning to do those papers and see which band you would have fallen into.

Nah its too hard to guess what marks you would have gotten in an English exam by trying to mark it yourself, and also i hated English so the chances of me doing another paper for it are slim. But for all other subjects I did previous papers during the HSC and usually fell pretty close to the raw marks i received in 2004.

Wait - but where are the raw examination marks?? They seem to only have the aligned ones we get?

You could just get your teacher to mark it for you. Chances are that at least one of the teachers at your school is/was an HSC marker.

BOS doesn't disclose raw marks unless you submit a Freedom of Information application, in which case you will be told your raw marks. Only your aligned marks are reported on the official Record of Achievement.

Hey, i've noticed that the Freedom of Information form requires an Australian postal address.

Can you fill one in if you're overseas? Like, i'm in the australian international school Singapore.

That shouldn't be a problem.

Just make a note of it on the form and add a little extra to the fee to cover the postage.

Or ask them to just fax it to you or some such.

From those sets of marks, the cut-offs for English (Advanced) in 2004 appear to be in the following ranges:

Band 5/6 (90): 80.8 - 81.4
Band 4/5 (80): 67.1 - 67.4
For Chemistry in 2004:

Band 3/4 (70): 39.3 - 41.3
Band 2/3 (60): 17.6 - 19.5

For Mathematics in 2004:

Band 5/6 (90): 91.0 - 93.7

Ok, really confused.l
So if i pay for the freedom of information act thingo, I will get raw assessment and exam marks?
I would like to do that if someone could help me fill out the form (hint lazarus).
I would also like to try and get them to split both the performance and written marks for drama so that I could see them :)

Wow: a raw mark of 20 aligning to 60!
If only a raw mark of 60 aligned to 100 :)
