So the raw cutoffs for aligned marks wouldn't start off really large and progressively narrow from there? i.e.
83-86=90
87-88=91
89-90=92
and then

91=93
92=94
93=95

etc, depending on highest raw mark?

yes i tihnk you've got it. but IT differs wildly from year to year so you can;t say very much. need more concrete subjects like sciences to speculate well haha

damn, but thanks anyway. hoping i get aligned 94+ so my uai has a chance of scraping 99.35+ (just personal goal; need 98.6 for my course)

yeah, but isn't that in your perspective? I've read that generally, Advanced is aligned similarly each year. There's rarely significant discrepancies between one year's raw band cutoffs and another year's. By the way a BOS member in the Adv forum said that 83/105 in last year's advanced was aligned to 90, but he never quoted the source of that info..Any ideas regarding this year's cutoff for B6? I'm speculating 84/85 personally but that's also subjective.

Nope. Apparently, you get nothing for getting non-first state ranks, other than acknowledgement on the Board of Studies statistics website. You only get an additional award for coming first.

There is also the Premier's Award for students awarded Band 6 or Band E4 in 10 units.

but umm the aligning differs for each mark. this is what i tihnk:

105 = 100
104-103 = 99
102-101 = 98
100-98=97
97-95 = 96
and so on. i think, but maybe im a bit optimisitic. this years test was easy so they'd align it more harsly

The gaps get smaller as they get lower not bigger.

EDIT: that makes no sense, because that means they have to fit 16 marks into a 10-mark gap.

Na cause its about standard deviation. So the smallest gaps will be around the middle mark then as you get further away the gaps will increase.

ITs all about the middle mark. The problem is for IPT that is put low in comparison to Ext 2 which has it a lot higher. So around that middle mark is a little cluster of marks either side and as the marks get further away from the middle the gap between that and the next mark gets bigger.

Pretty much in reference to scaling think for them picking up the middle mark and moving that alongthe scale higher or lower. (almost always higher).

so if 83 is 90 that we will say that 100 is 100 then maybe 97-99 is 99, 95-96 is 98, 94-95 is 97 93-94 is 96, 91-92 is 95, 89-90 is 94, 87-88 is 93, 86-87 is 92, 84-85 is 91 and 83-84 is 90. Of course we dont actually know if this is true but that would probably be my best guess (or maybe a few 3 mark gaps). Next u might have 1 mark correlates to 1 mark so 82 is 89 and as it gets closer to the middle (usually around 75 i think) you might even get 2 to 1 the other way.

It doesnt often get the descrimination it deserves. Especially in the higher scaling subjects such as Ext 2 maths its not really fair the raw mark to aligned mark.

That is sort of what the graph of the marks would look like in a very abbreviated form. Dots being amount of students on those marks.

Thanks for trying to explain it for me By three-mark gaps, do you mean that the range to attain 90 might be 83-86 and from then on the gaps narrow? i.e. 87-88=91, 89-90=92, 91-92=93? I think I understand what you mean by the middle mark and the clusters.
I need an aligned mark of 94+ in IPT to attain a UAI around the 99.3 mark and I think I got a raw mark in the exam of 88-90? So if a three-mark bracket exists (83-86=90), my chances of this decrease...right?

yeah; i accelerated advanced english.
and, fallenstar i think thats about right. because, usually, 100 is 100. so, in the higher spectrum of band 6, marks are pushed up 'less' but more greatly aligned when theyre a low band 6 or high band 5.

Yeah, I want to see that too...because my school might get some state ranks...we didn't get anything last year unfortunately...

you dont' necessarily get 100 even if you are the top state ranker.

As far as I can tell, the top mark Modern History was like 99 last year.

But yeah, teachers would probably know whether you got a state rank or not.
