The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. I'm waiting for 'A Memory of Light'.

LOTR was alright but Tolkien's writing style bored me from time to time (I was more satisfied reading his appendixes on Middle-Earth than the actual plot line).

And The Troy Series by David Gemmel

China Mieville's Bas Lag books (Perdido Street Station, The Scar, Iron Council) are practically perfect, if slightly confronting.

The latter part of the Dune series (Heretics, Chapterhouse) are also rather fantastic.

Also the Farseer/Liveship series by Robin Hobb is great.

Apparently another book in that world is coming out soon-ish.

1. The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien
2. the Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody (aussie author)
3. His Dark materials' by Phillip Pullman
4. Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfier
5. Hitch-hikers by Douglas Adams
6. The Song of the Lioness / Protector of the Small / The Trickester series by Tamora Pierce

Do the Doctor Who novels count?

Can you tell I'm a Sci-fi/fantasy fan? :D

Memory of Light will be a fair while coming though...
thanks! I even have the encyclopedia for the Wheel of Time series, haha.

I love anything by Sara Douglas.

- The Crucible
- The Wayfarer Redemption
- The Axis Trilogy

It's all good!

:D Niiiice. If you're an avid WoT reader, you should come join us on Wotism.net. ;)

Robin Hobb - The Farseer Trilogy
I've only read the first book so far, but it's brilliant!

The best in my opinion would have to go to the Otherland series by Tad Williams. It manages to appeal to so many differnt interests of mine (i.e. Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Historical, Mystery) all into one.
The discworld series would have to come next, followed by WoT (Which i have to start all over again now that book 11 is out :mad1:) and the Farseer trilogy.

His Dark Materials was good, even though I only read one of the books (couldn't locate the others, no matter where i looked!) but my absolute favourite would have to be Kushiels Legacy by Jacqueline Carey. Such a sophisticated style of writing, very intricate. She draws you right into the story and makes it real. Sara Douglass is an amazing author too, the Axis and the Wayfarer Redemption trliogies were excellent, i really enjoyed them. Just started reading the Troy Game, finished the first book, now trying to find the second. All the shops I've been to seem to only have the first and third, and i refuse to read a series out of order!

Re: What is the best trilogy of books or serise?

Wow, i didn't realise so many people here read so much sci-fi/fantasy. I got hooked into it with Feist's Magician, and i havent looked back :D

I must admit i've never got around to reading the trilogies by Robert Jordan, George R. R. Martin, David Eddings and other similar greats, because i've never been able to locate their trilogies in the right order, so i kinda gave up looking.

I'm interested in finding His Dark Materials though, sounds like it'd be a good read.

I have to agree that Tales of the Otori by Lian Hern was awesome, and i'm looking forward to reading the sequel The Harsh Cry of the Heron. Anyone got their hands on it yet?

Other than that, i've been reading a lot of Aussie fantasy, and they've become my recent faves, and i cant help but recommend them all:

Sara Douglass - The Troy Game (still waiting to read the last one though)

Jennifer Fallon - The Second Sons Trilogy
- The Hythrun Chronicles
- The Demon Child Trilogy
- The Tide Lords (soon to be released)

Trudi Canavan - The Black Magician Trilogy
- Age of the Five Trilogy

Glenda Larke - The Isles of Glory Trilogy
- The Mirage Makers Trilogy

Fiona McIntosh - Percheron Trilogy
- The Quickening Trilogy

Anyone else read these? I know Douglass is pretty popular, but what about the others?

'Gossip Girl', Girls' Night In' and the 'Tomorrow' Series. I also like the 'Ellie Chronicles,' which are a follow up to the 'Tomorrow' Series.
