Re: Help with 2013 English Standard & Advanced Half Yearly Exam: Section 3 Essay Ques Yes, you're right :) Put REALLY simply: a person can see belonging as good or bad, and a person can see NOT belonging as either good or bad eg. belonging to a tight family may be reassuring for some (&...

    2nd/outside opinions mean anything?

If you PM me your assessment task I will have it re-marked by an experienced HSC English teacher (who marked HSC exams) from another school for you. If you could also include any grade/comments that you received, that would be helpful in explaining why you got that mark (if it is considered to...

Concepts of belonging in : The Book Thief and Anna Karenina

I would consider NOT using The Catcher in the Rye as it is quite a popular related text and won't set you apart. The Book Thief is a great choice but I would perhaps choose a second related text that is not historical; give yourself a broader time spectrum :)

Possible related texts for Navigating the Global?

The art of travel by Alain de Botton, film or novel: 'the Accidental Tourist', Michele de Krester " questions of travel", Global Village on SBS, Gail Jones' novel "Dreams of Speaking" ( would fit in very well), film: Japanese Story, maybe Don de Lilo's white noise - I need to think about it...

Black Swan as a related text?

I would suggest using a different related text that has more thematic correlation with 'Romulus, My Father' - you will be more prepared going into the exams

Peter Skrynecki 10 Mary Street and The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan

Arggh... Do you have to choose Shaun Tan's 'The Lost Thing'?? It is SOOO over-used.... I STRONGLY recommend that you choose another related text to set yourself apart from the hundreds of other students who use Tan's picture books as a default option... PM me - I have some suggestions for you :)

Related Text for Romulus my father

Does the assignment specify that your related text must a film/short film? Also...Im not sure if it was a typo, but you said that you needed to related RMF to 'ANOTHER' movie/film... You realise that the prescribed RFM text is the non-fiction book, not the film adaptation...

Philosophers and the After the Bomb

Overall GREAT advice, Straweberrye!! Just a typo that may prevent a google search... It's 'The Myth of SISYPHUS' (with a 'y' in the middle) :)

Link Romulus my father to "New Boy"?

New Boy would be a great related text for Romulus as long you continually link it back to the prescribed text and ensure that your paragraphs are addressing the AOS rubric :)

Where to find sources about WWI online?

I know it's not online (does it HAVE to be online or do you just want convenience?) but I highly recommend 'Europe Since Napoleon' by Thompson. Find a few key quotes or viewpoints in there, use them in your Trials and HSC essay :)
