importance of grade in my course

It'd also really depend which actuarial firm or role you're applying for.

    UBS Cadetship

It's not really clear on the website- it sounds like each position is discussed and agreed between HR and the individual based on business needs. That being said all the people I know who did it worked a full time job. I'd also take the pwc example with a pinch of salt- it's 1 day off per week...

    Cadetships 2013 thread

I stand corrected- definitely looks something more akin to a cadetship. On another note, has everyone been attending the various firm events/info nights?

I think Deloitte Private is the name of the division whereas "achievers program" is similar to what other big 4 offers (e.g. preview/foundation style programs) which are more akin to skills-building workshops for uni students.

    Cadetships 2013 thread

I'd say it's something to do with advising on risks and most likely, operational risk management.

    Needing Assistance With Gearing :)

I'd say for bonus points, certain industries actually naturally favour higher gearing ratios due to the security which debt funding of the balance sheet offers. Look at any bank or financial institution- very rarely are these funded by equity given their role in society/market of facilitating...

    Environmental Sustainability

You mean other than the carbon tax? There's always two ways policies work- carrot or stick. Carrots could be anything from subsidies, research grants, rewards for doing well, government contracts, additional promotion/marketing/endorsement, etc... whereas sticks could be taxes, fines...

importance of grade in my course

That being said it depends what career path you plan to undertake... I've heard that if you're applying for an actuarial job, the recruiters tend to require decent marks in actuarial subjects.

some people do but it's pretty darn obvious. better off thinking through good examples and knowing what the key points are rather than memorising something which may or may not be relevant.

    Cadetships 2013 thread

Hard to say but I guess given you're still so early on, your HSC marks/results are probably more relevant since they are locked down.

    Cadetships 2013 thread

Let's not kid ourselves here though, whilst academics aren't the main or sole factor at either cadetship, intern or graduate level, they are of some importance as they are not only indicative of your ability to do well in the education system but are a proxy for your ability and willingness to...

If you're already in uni, then I assume your uni marks will also be considered but you need to already be doing the right courses/etc.

    Cadetships 2013 thread

My situation was special as I negotiated a unique arrangement with the firm when I went back to full time uni. To be more precise, I was working 40 hours a week on a casual contract whilst doing full time uni. It wasn't part of a cadetship. That being said in general, at no point are you forced...

Really just need to be good enough to get into the required courses at uni which enable you to work/study at the same time (i.e. part time study) and are CA eligible.

They'll probably introduce themselves and if their title starts with a C rather than a P then you'll know (if it's for an accounting firm role rather than UBS). And, I think the biggest difference would be the way they conduct themselves or ask questions. The senior people may be more willing...

    What have you eaten today?

Tried a charcoal chicken shop which is meant to be similar to El Jannah. Not bad.

Keep in mind though my response is only based on my experience, each company/firm is different, and heck, even your individual interviewer on the day could have a different view! Every now and then at least in my organisation, I've seen some pretty senior people jump in to do interviews every...

    Cadetships 2013 thread

To be honest I don't think it matters if you are dead set on something or not especially at cadet level. That's not to say you shouldn't do your research (because you'll look like an idiot for signing up for something you know nothing about) but I don't think a reasonable employer would expect...

    Cadetships 2013 thread

Everyone is different I'd say. Some cadets work cruisy hours 9-5 and take 2 hour lunches, whilst others can sometimes work til midnight. At the end of the day though, the key benefit to doing a cadetship is the opportunity it gives you in terms of development and experience which you wouldn't...

Manufacturing Industry Assistance - Ford pulls out of Australia

Isn't that what's been happening for the past twenty years when tariffs started being reduced? Ugh Indeed.
