I'm not familiar with the student profile- can you explain? As for students still studying though, I think it's worth popping up a profile and mentioning things even if not that relevant such as work experience (e.g. Maccas), your extra curricular activities/societies at university, and even...

    LinkedIn

Never too early in my opinion. Doesn't hurt to create a very basic profile even if only to say you are a student (a lot of people do this). At the end of the day, it's another way you can control the information available to recruiters.

    LinkedIn

Just thought I'd create a thread to open up the discussion on peoples' experiences with using LinkedIn in the Commerce/Business space. I personally have maintained a strong profile using LinkedIn and it's actually brought in a lot of positive attention from recruiters. Whilst I did have the...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Just a note though, if you are only just finding out about this stuff now you may want to do some research before you shoot your CV's off to every firm. A cadetship/traineeship is not an easy thing to just sign up for- i.e. it's not a scholarship, it's a full time job (i.e. minimum of 9-5 every...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Most firms do a 'catch up' recruitment drive for first year uni students to enter cadetship programs but keep in mind there aren't that many positions during this recruitment phase compared to if you applied during high school.

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

It's a great program but I suspect most of you guys won't appreciate the 'real' benefits of it until much later in your careers. I was fortunate enough that I got to move divisions during my cadetship, and hence I've seen the benefits of experience in non-FS environments before moving into FS...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

As far as I know, the only cadetships which pay for your uni degree are government-related (e.g. audit office of nsw, treasury department, etc) but then you accept a reduced salary and different career progression/structure. Seriously though for Big 4 cadets- you guys are being paid so much...

Trainee grant scheme as tambam mentioned is independent of HECS. It's a payment made in exchange for you committing to work for the firm. HECS is the loan scheme offered by the government to make university more accessible to people (i.e. you get to borrow the cost of your university education...

What would happen to the AUD/USD if the US raised interest rates?

Apparently the interviewers were looking for the 2nd response as the 'answer'. *shrugs* If it were me in the interview I'd caveat my answer with "textbook theory suggests...., but practically speaking, it would signal increased economic confidence in the US economy to the global markets".

What would happen to the AUD/USD if the US raised interest rates?

Apparently this question was asked in some IB interviews this year, and I'm curious to hear what the guys on BoS think. When I was asked my view on this, I had two conflicting thoughts- the first being the textbook theory of interest rate parity and interest rate differentials (in short...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Difficult to describe but you would've gotten a good feel for things at the various functions (information sessions, interview itself, congratulatory function). Everyone perceives things differently and it would vary depending on both the people you met and the department/division you applied...

Does the uni you get your Commerce degree from affect your employment prospects?

If that was the only differentiating factor I'm inclined to think they'd probably progress both candidates to the online testing stage or telephone interview assuming they are both on comparable marks despite the university. ** I'll caveat that it depends on what industry/job though **

Audi A8 or BMW 7 Series

M1 and M3 are both very different cars. At the end of the day a 7 series or A8 is a car to be driven in, or to comfortably cruise on highways (or in traffic).

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

It's possible, and as far as I know, it's encouraged, but it's not "easy" per se. You will still need to be doing reasonably well in your current role and be able to offer something to the division you want to move to. Advisory is a popular target and some of my friends have transferred over the...

    Can I do Commerce + a language @ UNSW/USYD?

Any particular reason why you want to study it at university/tertiary level? If you just want to learn a language for fun, I would recommend you consider other ways of learning such as Saturday schools, TAFE, community college, etc.... because at least these won't impact your WAM (and future job...
