    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Yes. Applications open around May-ish but keep an eye out on the ICAA website. Application process will vary from firm to firm but remember you are applying for a job at each firm- there is no central authority over like university places or scholarships.

    Good cars for girls.

i don't know how much of this thread is necessarily girls cars- rx7/rx8 aren't exactly the typical girls cars but judging by OPs responses to other posts, it sounds like she wants something a bit edgier than the typical mazda 2, yaris, polo, etc... if i was a chick i'd go for something like a...

CA Program - Ask questions, get answers! (new and improved)

Sorry mate, been flat out with work and haven't been on BoS much this past month. The Institute doesn't care what your marks are or whether you failed as long as you ended up meeting the accreditation requirements- i.e. you completed a recognised degree (e.g. B Commerce at UNSW) and that you...

    Which major Commerce/Law?

Wait until you get to higher level finance :P Black scholes much? That being said, it's not just memorising the equation, but trying to remember the little details as to how it works. I guess in hindsight it wasn't *that* bad, but if you don't have general maths under your sleeves you may want...

    Which major Commerce/Law?

I'll put it this way, I was band six in 2u maths and I struggled with statistics (core subject). Different people will fare differently but I'd say stats was up there as one of the most challenging subjects for me.

    Which major Commerce/Law?

It's not a required anymore but highly recommended. Did you do general maths or none at all? If none at all, I'd say you would struggle with the finance/economics related subjects since even the core Commerce subjects (i.e. the first year subjects) will require some calculations involving...

    Which major Commerce/Law?

I'd say if you plan on doing corporate law in the future, either accounting or finance. Finance because then you'll understand a lot more about what's going on in deals and transactions (nb. I work in this space from the accounting side and regularly deal with lawyers and IBers), or accounting...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Three very different fields. In short, 1. Business Solutions- offering a wide range of services to businesses, typically tax returns and general consultancy advice. Typically targeted to small-medium clients and offered by mid-tier firms. Big firms are starting to have growing presence in this...

CA Program - Ask questions, get answers! (new and improved)

More than wiling to help share some information but would love to also hear the results of your analysis as well- happy to take this offline. Basically we use CA Masterclass for everything (classes + notes), and recently they started an internal discussion around the projects (rather than...

    LinkedIn

Ironically it's exactly what FB used to be where you would have your network displayed after everything you did (i.e. either your university/college, or your employer), and to get on an employer's network you had to have registered using your work email address.

UNSW commerce or UTS business with scholarship

Considering it's all based on what you've heard/seen rather than experienced, what do you think it is about UNSW which will make you enjoy it more (other than the 'girls' you mentioned in your first post)? LOL.

UNSW commerce or UTS business with scholarship

I'd go for scholarship option because; a) you get paid b) you already have a job c) significantly more convenient than UNSW/USYD/Macquarie for location especially when doing a cadetship d) it sounds good if you have a university scholarship (even if it's due to your HSC performance)

If you have choice, I'd recommend going for things which highlight skills and competence in areas which you need to land yourself a role in the area you want.

Depends on how you describe your role and involvement with BoS. You can spin it any way you like- I personally go for the leading and facilitating discussion aspect.

    LinkedIn

LOL I'm currently debating whether to mention I'm an admin and a moderator on a couple of car forums... on one hand it shows I have interests and commitment to communities, but does it really improve my profile? Hmm.

Thanks for that! I didn't know. I've added BoS as an organisation :)

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

If you're trying to change paths altogether, I'd keep your cadetship (as a backup) but then on the side apply for vacation positions or grad roles. These shouldn't conflict with your current cadetship timing (other than to attend interviews) and at least this way you'll have a normal...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Shouldn't you be applying for internship/summer vacation programs? Might be a bit late since I think the recruitment season for those has come and gone, but there may be 2nd round offers for that now which I think is what you're referring to?

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Grant is actually only for 2 years (or more technically, about 18 months since you're not at uni for the entire 2 years!) but why would you be surprised? After all, the firm is giving you $x per month for agreeing to work for the firm when you graduate, so if you end up not working with the...
