    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

I'd say a lot depends on which divisions you were made offers in, and what your interests/career goals are. Each firm will have their share of people who "slip through the cracks" and don't enjoy themselves for whatever reason, and each firm will have instances of those who do really well and...

    Car to Buy Advice

There are a few companies out there which do something similar but I can't remember the names... will find out and post back!

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Are you interested in at trainee level, or at my level? Keep in mind that in general though I see working in assurance similar to school whereby each year you progress and take on a slightly different role. For example, a new trainee or graduate would be very involved in performing the fieldwork...

    Audi S5 or BMW 335I

Nah, M3 is far more track focussed whereas the S5 is more grand tourer. I really liked the S5 and now that the 3 series is due to be replaced, I'd be reluctant to recommend it. That being said if it was my money/budget, I'd go 335i coupe over the S5 since it'd be more affordable and IMO looks...

Audi A8 or BMW 7 Series

Depends what you want in the car. If you're more of a 'driving enthusiast' then the 7 series no doubt will be more dynamic and involving to drive (although if you were really a driving enthusiast and not just being chauffeured around, then I'd probably go for a grand tourer like the new 6 series...

Audi A8 or BMW 7 Series

Would it be fair to say the BMW 760Li is a lot cooler and trendier, and probably more of a driver's car (note: I haven't driven the current F01 gen 7 series but I did drive both the E38 and E65), but the S500 is still THE car.

Audi A8 or BMW 7 Series

Overall though I prefer the S Class in this category. It may not have the technical gadgetry which the 7 series has in terms of features list, but nothing screams "BOSS" like the Big Benz.

Audi A8 or BMW 7 Series

BMW 7 Series- I like the look, the features, and the fact that it's far more distinctly different from the other models within the lineup compared to the relationship between Audi models.

Hot or not: Nissan 350Z (Fairlady Z33)

I think so too but can't quite put my finger on it.

Hot or not: Nissan 350Z (Fairlady Z33)

Doesn't take much to make a 370z look good :)

    Car to Buy Advice

It's a pretty safe bet. If you've saved up cash, I would be checking sites like carjoy.com.au (there's a few which offer a similar premise) and it'll help you get the car at a good price. Last week they had a Mazda 3 for $19,990 driveaway in manual so it changes each week... just keep watching!

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Yes. Wear pretty much what you wore to your interview and you'll be safe- remember dress up not down. "Smart" but not Business attire means you can probably sans the jacket or tie, but your choice as you'll still want to look good.

Bachelor of Commerce at UNSW or Usyd?

I agree with where you're coming from here but Harvard is in a totally different league. That's like saying what car you drive doesn't matter whether it's a Toyota or a Mazda, but then someone rocking up in a Lamborghini. For the purposes of the discussion here though, universities locally are...

What car do you drive? (the new one)

PM me if you're really interested but for the record, I'm not a CA yet (fingers crossed for November). I've just been working full time in a chartered firm for 5+ years. It's all good. FYI bought the Evo myself as well. That being said my parents did pay for the Civic which they have since...

    nourishment at racecourse

My personal solution was to always plan ahead and bring meals/snacks, but also to drive to give me a chance to drive to the nearby restaurants/fast food outlets between exams.

How specific will the HSC exam be?

Maybe the course has changed a lot since my time but I'd be surprised if you had to write anything serious on "how does a scanner work" in the real HSC- from memory it was a lot more case study focussed when it came to extended responses.

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Haha the only way to find out is to ask me in person and mention BoredofStudies. The trick is to pose your question in such a way that just in case you haven't picked the right person, they don't think you're weird for asking if they are involved in the government department which develops your...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and I'm sorry for being so slow to respond- I didn't see this post before. It's perfectly fine to not want to do a cadetship- not everyone does. At the end of the day it's a full time job commitment in a very specific industry which may or may not help...

    Help deciding majors within course

Definitely not a science. Also not an art. It's kindof like law- it requires you to interpret standards and apply them, but then on the other hand it requires you to use the conceptual framework and basic principles to determine the 'correct' accounting treatment for something which isn't...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Tip for the guys going through the process at the mo', don't think too hard about your odds or chances of getting in. I am 99% confident that it is NOT possible for you to accurately gauge this because you won't really know how many applications there were, how many have been culled, how many...
