Isn't the point of probation to have an easy way out for employers if the person is found to be "unsuitable"?... not just if they overhired.

    Double degrees and accounting cadetships

I reckon if you're open with the firm about it- it'll save you from having to cover it up and they might even understand your situation better. I know people who've managed to do cadetships with B Comm @ USYD by asking.

New ICAA advertisements in the cinemas...

LOL. I also didn't like the number one in numbers- that was really corny. At least this one looks a lot more professional, but apart from the glorification of international accounting, it doesn't really say much.

    Any evo fans?

I disagree.. there are a lot of Lancers out there with kits, but not all of them aspire to look like an Evo. That's like assuming that because someone has an Impreza with a kit, that they are wannabe-WRX.

New ICAA advertisements in the cinemas...

.... any of you guys seen it yet? At first I thought it was some advertisment for a global IB or something... definitely improved alot and better than the CPA adds I reckon.

Uh... what did you think the point of probation was?

    Double degrees and accounting cadetships

Different firms have different rules. Even if the firm doesn't outright offer it, you should discuss your options with the relevant HR contact asap regarding this. It largely depends on the division you have been offered a cadetship with.

    Major choice.

I know the pain. Stupid IBM notepads has the "Back" button on the keyboard right next to the DPAD. Similarly to ND, there are many things wrong with that line :P

As everyone else has put it... university won't guarantee you success nor is it a necessity- but if you aren't sure on what you want to do with your small business, it doesn't hurt to get some background knowledge on how to do business/fundamentals. If you already have a kickass idea and a...

    Major choice.

Do you really think that someone who is young and wanting to start their own business- is really going to be doing much marketing, FBT, etc..? I doubt it. I'm saying that Accounting will come in handy because he/she is likely to end up using MYOB or Quicken (or something like that) to help...

    Major choice.

I'm probably a bit biased but I'd say Accounting might be the best option as it'll teach you the basics of book keeping (which you'll need), organisational structure, managing inventory procedures (and methods like Just in Time), understanding how financing your business will work, etc... I'm...

LOL i nearly forgot that auditors were doing a noble deed to society!

after 7-8yrs they still care about your uni marks?

It's kindof like how some firms still want to know your UAI even though you're applying for a grad position. I don't think it makes that much difference unless there's a tie breaker between two equally qualified candidates.

    Graduate accounting positions

TBH, pay is an important aspect of ANY job. Nonetheless though, if this was purely about pay, then we'd hit the whole IB vs. Big4 debate again.

    Any evo fans?

Oops my mistake. Forgot about that. But then I still don't seem to understand the whole point of that exercise in terms of real-life or practical application?

    Any evo fans?

I don't drive a manual in the real world... but out of interest, why would anyone start their car in 5th gear? I know that at higher speeds, 5th gear will return better mileage; but why start initially in 5th? I know some cars start in 2nd (the automatics) but I thought that was to stop the car...

    Graduate accounting positions

That's what I think anyway- unless you got the job as a lateral recruit (ie. degree/specialisation in a particular field such as Engineering). I also think in the long run, it's your post-grad qualifications which make the difference. But then this topic (I think) is talking more short-term...

    Top 'speed' done and where?

I hate it when people cut/force their way in front of me at high speeds... only for them to suddenly brake. As for the 300km/h in the DB9... aren't Astons speed limited? Wow though :)

    Graduate accounting positions

TBH the only people I know who have doubles, are people doing tax- and tax has always had a higher salary than audit for newstarters hasn't it? So really.. it's difficult to say. But I know people with Honours receive the same as those without (at grad level)... but then Honours vs. Double...

    Any evo fans?

I smell top gear! :) From memory there was a section after it where the Evo got beaten by some small car because they started off in a high gear or something... what was the point of that? Whilst I'm no pro driver... I can't help but think that with technology like that, the Evo is becoming...
