What car will you get as your first car?

Just saw a TV add for 5dr Yaris driveaway $15990. That's pretty good value IMO! Good first car for many ppl.

    Volvos

Happy 5000th post! Anyway I was thinking more along the lines of SAAB trying too hard to stick to their old models without reinventing/upgrading them or at least doing some kind of facelift. They tried too hard to rely on heritage to sell cars (i.e. the brand) without adding value. Like you...

    V6 and V8

Don't you think the decline in visibility and agility would offset this? One of my family's cars has racing harnesses and rollcages which whilst keeping me securely in my bucket seat and protecting me in an accident, make it difficult to see anything outside of the car, let alone turning around...

    V6 and V8

lol i was thinking more along the lines of consumer grade cars w/o specialised safety equipment... there's a video of an old SL mercedes convertible flipping and the driver walking away somewhere on youtube.

I can't help but think that's still a poor choice of car for a learner since it has a much more potent accelerator pedal (I'd imagine less lag) and you are encouraged to accelerate rather than slow down when there is a potential conflict (e.g. lanes merging). But fair enough you raise some very...

    V6 and V8

Have you driven a high performance car before? It's a very tempting preposition to utilise it. I don't necessarily agree with the approach but I can see where they are coming from by removing the incentive/opportunity to speed easily, they are hoping to keep the death toll down. The star...

    V6 and V8

I am pretty sure location makes a difference because I do remember when the restrictions first came out some people argued they lived in the bush/farm and needed the power. Same argument was used by my mate who also lives on a farm/acreage. Congrats you found a flaw in the system. A lot of...

    Volvos

I think more modern SAABs have really lost the plot trying to stay too true to their "heritage" though whereas Volvo successfully reinvented themselves into a much more hip and quality brand. SAAB's lack of innovation both in design and technologies makes me question how to justify the premium...

    V6 and V8

LOL a C63 is overkill for a P plater's level of experience IMO but good luck getting an exemption for it- the reason why I say it is unlikely is because it has three letters tacked onto the end which scream high performance. My mate with the 135i got one because he lives in "rural" land...

What car will you get as your first car?

^ Not a local Aussie I can see. I wish I lived in the states. At current exchange rates the money I spent on my cars I could buy an R35 :(

Where and how much do you tip?

Taxi drivers won't give out their # if you're a trouble maker... and they prefer regular business from people who respect them (e.g. no chucking in the car!), and aren't runners.

Where and how much do you tip?

Btw when I say decent customers, I mean reliable, always-paying, clean, etc... i.e. those who pay the fare and don't cause trouble.

what box sets/ tv series do you own on dvd?

Only counting actual boxed sets and not just DVDs of an entire series (e.g. Flintstones, Married w/ Children, etc) Friends 1-10 is my favourite Prison Break 1-4 (not really boxed set though) Various Simpsons Various Top Gear Sailor Moon dvd box set (anime/movies)- bought for sister for Xmas for...

Where and how much do you tip?

You guys don't catch cabs very often do you? They're looking for regular business from decent customers (rather than relying on their radio to get new jobs). e.g. I had to go out to a client in Alexandria everyday for several months and the cabby offered me his direct # on a nicely printed...

Where and how much do you tip?

Of course but you expect a certain level of service if you are at a premium restaurant- I'm not going to tip someone for doing the basics of their job especially if I'm paying $40pp or more. You tip when the wait staff have gone above and beyond what is expected.
